The right place?

Average home attendance this past weekend for the 6 Big Sky conference football games was a whopping 8,839. The high end of the scale was EWU at 10,529 (only game to top the "big" 10k mark). I unfortunately missed watching the game, but I assume the Griz faithful had something to do with that "high end" attendance figure.
You can say "beat a dead horse" over and over, but is this the place for Montana football? I say emphatically "NO".

Look at this shit^^^^   We outclass most FCS schools so bad. NC's stadium looks as lame ass as Easterns.

When you have espn announcers saying they've been a lot of places, WaGriz has to be tops and that WaGriz reminds them of Autzen stadium coupled with the fact that Montana is the overall winningest team in FCS history I find it amazing Montana isn't in the FBS.

Yet we're 0-2 in a conference that we out-draw in attendance? Butts in seats isn't a very good benchmark for comparing what conference you should be in.

Butts in seats along with Montana's resume from the last quarter century should do.

0-2 for now....Montana consistently finishes seasons better then any other team in the FCS.

Until proven otherwise......FBS anyone?

I understand there are many variables associated with moving to the FBS and I trust Montana has itself in the right spot. It just appears rather silly we're not in the FBS when you look at it in black and white.

Full seats this season is based on presale of tickets after deep playoff run. A couple of this type of seasons will result in a lot of empty seats in years to come.

I disagree. They will be at the stadium but they will never leave the tailgate area. That seems to be the real draw. We should work to improve the restrooms out there and put big screen tvs all around the area! All would be good. :thumb:

Would you rather be a guppy in a shark tank or a shark in a guppy tank? I'd rather be the shark. The Griz do a good job of recruiting talent that just barely missed the FBS programs in the west (Pac-12, WAC, Mountain West) but I question how successful Montana would be in recruiting if we had to compete head-to-head against those same conferences. For every Boise there's a dozen Idahos and Marshalls that haven't done crap since moving up. The answer isn't to move up. The answer is to strengthen the Big Sky, which has happened, albeit slowly. The answer is to bring in programs to the FCS like NDSU and UND which are immediatly competing in the FCS. The answer is to improve facilities, which is happening, albeit slowly. The Cats expanded and improved their Litterbox. The Eagles put in their stupid red field. I'd rather watch my Griz compete for a playoff spot and add up to 4 exciting games to the schedule than hope for a berth in some no-name "Bowl Game" that's doesn't amount to crap and our fans would have to travel across the nation to attend and we would all forget the name of a year later. The answer is to make the Big Sky and the FCS stronger...and it's happening.

This! FCS football is fun and exciting to watch (plus it has a real playoff vs. stupid a** bowl games). FBS? Just another made-for-television major sporting event. You can watch your favorite NFL team for that.

My sentiments too.

Montana belongs at the 2nd tier FBS level, along with the top FCS programs, which is exactly where they'll end up soon. IMO, the Griz don't belong with low FCS programs, and there are far too many of those in the BSC.

Why does anyone think that winning is important at the FBS level...Idaho is the poster child proving that it has nothing to do with winning, it is about big paydays. To be a member of FBS does not require putting a good team on the field. :coffee:

I'd rather be the shark. About the only positive I can come up with from moving up would be getting WaGriz on the NCAA video game...

Sadly I see moving up an eventual inevitability. Either way I'll be watching every snap of Griz football.

I think you're on the right track, but making the wrong conclusion. There are a lot of FCS teams that could conceivably move up to FBS and make more money. But how many fanbases want to make more money only to go 6-6 and if lucky, get to play in the Napa Automotive Okra Bowl in the lovely city of Jonesboro, Arkansas (or comparable)?

Idaho is literally stuck right now because their football team brings in money by playing road games against big schools for 7 figure paychecks, but they aren't at all competitive and they're drawing less today than they did 20 years ago in the Big Sky. And their fanbase is a hell of a lot less enthusiastic.

Ultimately, with this issue coupled with total discontent among non-BCS FBS schools, I think there will wind up a tier between FBS and FCS. Because the truth is that the gap between, say, the SEC and WAC is still less than the gap between conferences like the Big Sky, CAA, MVC, SoCon and the pretender, DI-in-name-only conferences like the SWAC, Pioneer, etc.

I know the "middle tier" has been discussed, and more now than ever before, among ADs.

Holy Fu8&. We are 0-2 and this is what we are talking about. You beat the horse, ran his ass over, buried him, dug him up, beat him some more, etc. Give it a rest already. When we win two NC's in a row I will listen to you.
