The Refs sucked!!!!!!

The only penalty called on CC was a pass interference call. That play happened right in front of a ref, and he did not call it, after the play was over the side-line official threw the flag, there is no reason the official standing there should not have called it. On the pick that JJ threw the guy that hit him was very, very close to being offsides, and that helped him get past the blocker. I hate that this is what this game will be remembered for is the shitty calls, because it was actually one hell of an offensive game by both teams.

I agree GrizLa. Unacceptable even if your bias to your southern friends these refs were lost the whole day. Maybe an explanation will be forthcoming but it will be a huge part of this game. Stuff like that makes people lose faith in the GAME.
Not biased, just objective. Had the Griz made 3 field goals instead of 4 and outs in the red zone they would be packing for Fargo.

you have to go into a game knowing there will almost always be bad calls, that is just part of sports. good teams don't let bad/missed calls bog them down.

the most frustrating part of this game was the nonchalant jog into the end zone by jamal jones followed by the 15 yard penalty. imagine if we had kicked off into the end zone, had them on their own 20 with a time out and our crowd behind us...

poor pass protection, defense not wrapping up, cc qb throwing blocks on our backers, not containing cc qb, giving up the big play (86,51 yard td's)...the list goes on. griz were not in this game. the refs had very little, if any effect on the overall outcome of the game.
Yeah you go into games knowing there will be bad calls but refs negating an entire play that they let happen to review the previous play is just asinine!! Granted CC is a good team and deserved to win but that "bad" call was worse than bad.

First, college you have to show control when the catch is made which in this case was all that needed. The minute the ball in possession crossed out of bound is all that is needed to determine the catch.

The problem was on the reviewed play, is as it was clearly administered funkily, that it was conducted by a crew of officials who haven't had to use replay all that often if not ever.

Everything I can find on the internet suggests, as soon as the ball is snapped and no attempt to stop the play has been made by the crew they can't review the other play. The only person who has contact with the booth is the head official as far as i know. So it seems at least at first glance a real screw up. More so when there wasn't evidence to overturn the play.

Yes there are always questionable calls as well as missed calls. There were plenty of those and at least one had an impact on the game. However, there is a huge difference between a questionable call and doing something that is NOT allowed per the rules of the game. By going back to review the previous play after they let the next play happen, the refs went FAR beyond the scope of their authority. They can't make the rules - only enforce the rules already in place, and in this case they changed the rules mid-game.

Well put.

Coastal deserved the win but you guys got jobbed by the officials on a horrible call that definitely contributed to the loss...wait where have I heard that before

I was pulling for the Griz but Karma is a bitch :|

Bingo. Sure there were some questionable calls and a LOT of missed calls... like how was there no personal foul when the CC player tried to rip the leg off of one of our Olineman early in the game? Even with all that though you are right there are always some questionable calls and non-calls in football. It happens. As much as it sucks to see against your team it's to be expected every once in a while and no point in bitching about it.

However what they did with that replay goes well beyond just a bad call or bad non-call. First and goal from the 2 and we likely score a TD. Instead they wipe out that 15 yard gain by reviewing a play that happened before the 15 yard gain and then we promptly go 4 and out no momentum anymore (which we had) and end up losing by 7. Out of all the bullshit and wtf calls I've seen in college football over the years this one is right up there at the top, especially since it had such a major impact on the game.

Going to try to rewatch that section on ESPN3 again and see if there's any hint as to wtf the reasoning was behind that. Delaney sure was not happy on the sidelines. I don't think I've ever seen him so animated before.

This year's team is no where near as good as everyone thinks. We were lucky to host a playoff game and until the head coach is replaced we will never get any farther than we did this year!
Bottom line is this, Griz overachieved this year!

True, but if you'd only have beat Yale...alas.

The replay official and his crew shall review every play of a game. He may stop a game at any time before the ball is next legally put in play (Exception: Rule 12-3-5-c) whenever he believes that:
1. There is reasonable evidence to believe an error was made in the initial on-field ruling.
2. The play is reviewable.
3. The outcome of a review would have a direct, competitive impact on the game.

At least how it was administered on the field, there is no way this could have happened. There was no attempt on video, I watched the game on TV, that this occurred.

Yes that is true too...worst loss maybe ever. Sadly I was there :(

One no call that really hacked me off was when CCU was clearly offsides on the play where Jordy threw the interception. Get that call right and our offense gets the ball back which could have led to points. That irritates me but I can let it go since we see stuff like that all the time. Taking away the play by reviewing the previous play though - that is just unacceptable.

Sadly I have to agree. Even with the officiating debacle I think the Griz could have pulled it out with better coaching.
