There is no upside for a FBS school to play an top-tier FCS team. None. Conferences will increasingly set policies prohibiting these games - certainly the power 5. The loss today not only probably takes Iowa out of the top 25, it also hurts the BIG 10 overall.

It was a good win by NDSU - very impressive. And, their Defense did win that game. HUGE stops at the end and the Pick 6 were the difference. FBS caliber o-line didn't hurt as well. :)
Absolutely true about the lack of upside.

Be interesting to see if any mid- to high-level FBS teams suddenly decide to drop games already scheduled against really good FCS program. But ego will dampen that and, let's face it, it does not happen to the big boys all that often.

Good job representing the FCS again, always good to see the big boys take a hit.

Meanwhile, Montana State pissing down their legs after the first against some D plus a bunch of capital i's school. Ridiculous.

It's games like this that make beating the Bison even sweeter. Not sure when it will happen again but you've got to beat the best to be the best. I have faith the Griz are going to build something special in the coming years.
You might be right. UM seems over exited when they lose a CLOSE GAME to a power conference school whether it be football or basketball. Hopefully, with the new coaches they can change this mindset. But, I've been saying this for years. Basketball at UM is breaking through that "we are just the little guys" to we can compete with the big guys but can they compete with us" mindset. It makes me shake my head to hear "we almost beat ucla in 1974"....That kind of thinking has kept a lot of Griz teams from being where NDSU is today...I'd love to see a UM team, men or women, that can honestly say they are going to win all the games they have scheduled and more. But, looking backward is, indeed, common place on this site.

Yep, that is your problem.

Too bad Hawks could not get it done at home with 73k stunned faithful looking on

Griz got it done at home with bison with our 26k nation loud and proud

Bison seem to have a strong lock on 1 seed.....the rest of us play for #2

I like our chances

This. Today was bad for the rest of FCS because it's pretty likely the bi-sons will get the #1 seed again. It will be hard to end their run unless you can get them away from Fargo.

It's no different that "The Ginger" having success in the NFL. It's good for impression of FCS football, and that benefits us. Whether or not the resentment (and bit of jealousy) you gals have for NDSU will let you see that is a different story.

Totally agree. Any FCS school beating a ranked FBS team is good, even if it has to be NDSU. It shows that a high level of football is being played here. Also of interest; a couple of days ago on Russillo and Kannel, Danny mentioned that top FCS teams are better than lower FBS schools and that FBS teams should reconsider scheduling them. Just by watching teams like Montana, NDSU, EWU, and Jacksonville State play and then watching a Nevada, Ball State, Rutgers or Iowa State play, the better looking teams are the FCS ones. I don't like the Bison, but I am very interested to see what they can do against a Top 25 team. Might be closer than people think.

NDSU will get beat in this game and it won't be very close. Past NDSU teams would have a shot but not this one. Punting has sucked, secondary play has been poor and the offensive line hasn't played well. Iowa will win by 17.

Kudos for NDSU scheduling this game though.
  Great FCS insight, right there. :thumb:

So you are laughing at me because I thought the 13th ranked team in the FBS would beat an NDSU team who had not played well their first two games? Lol glad I was wrong I guess.

Gonna be interesting to see how many FBS teams stop scheduling NDSU. Even the announcer said at the end there is absolutely no upside for an AD to schedule this team. Sometimes these wins are great for FCS. Sometimes there are bigger $ and issues at play. Lots of fcs schools need that big money play up game to make their budget.

This! As fun as it is for NDSU or E Washington or whoever to win games like this it doesn't do the FCS any good. Several bad things happen.

1. You tend to get your team beat up, no as many scholarships ect ect.
2. The BCS fans no matter what consider it a fluke so they chuckle it off.
3. BCS teams stop scheduling FCS guys that need the $$.

Iowa State fans, Minny Gopher fans, Nebraska fans, et al may be chuckling at this loss to an FCS school........but, believe me, as I was walking out of Kinnick Stadium after the game today, there weren't any Hawkeye fans chuckling.

My head said Iowa would win the game. They brought back the kitchen sink from last year's team. I watched the first two games and was really impressed by their team.

But.....I knew this team had a chance. Why? They are the fucking Bison. This is what they do.

Honestly, I put this win above App State. NDSU straight up punched Iowa in the mouth and beat them at their own game. Have not seen a ranked FBS team beat in that fashion.

Nope. Not even close to the App/Michigan game. Sorry.

I don't think this one will be close. Without Bob Jensen or the Ginga Ninja, the T-Buffs are lucky to have eeked out two OT wins at home, both of which they should have lost. Iowa will win this one with a few garbage scores at the end by the T-Buffs, and T-Buffers will talk about how they almost won for years on eGriz.

Being the one that looks to always be funny, how's that egg taste? Looks like the yoke's on you.

No way this win ranks above APp state VS Michigan. for one thing I will guarantee you will not see NDSU ranked in the BCS top 25 this week. That is what happened with App State. App State beat the number 5 ranked team in the country that year and and had to pull off amazing plays in every aspect of the game. Even blocking a field goal to win it. This was great win probably in the top 3 but not the best FCS vs FBS win of all time.
