Last spring I brought up a nasty looking power forward from Stevensville H.S.(Metra Park...state tourney) I didn't know if he played football at the time...but of course you guys straightened me out in a N.Y. minute. Has anyone watched him play this year?? What is his status? He looked like a TOTAL a$$ kicking machine! Thanks... :egriz: Also has anyone seen Will Weyer play in MORE than a couple of games this year? He's coming down again this year, but I'll be heading to Zoo town.

Could be the biggest recruit to come out of Montana since Mark Anderson from Lewistown. Anderson was a Prep All-American and a 5 star recruit. Good luck to him!

if the sims brother and sister can break away from their parents, they will be ok.

Interesting comment. Feel free to elaborate.

Don't you know? EVERY elite athlete has overbearing parents. It's apparently a requirement... ;)

Will is a very good passer, and is behind a line that, as a group, could probably start for some frontier schools right now. He doesn't move great (or really at all) in the pocket, but has a great arm, and can read defenses with the best of them. It does help that there are about 6-7 kids on the team that will get offers from both the Cats and the Griz. Bozeman is by far the best high school team in the state. Only down side is that he can't run with the ball. Against Helena Capital, I don't think he took more than 2 steps all game.

Would like to see Beaverhead County play against the "big boys." Thumping Billings Central ain't an easy task...

I love that there is a poll at the end of that article and 100% of the people that voted on it voted it made them angry! Ha!

Doesn't sound like he needed to..... ;)

Weyer is the best I have seen this year, and I have watched every AA school, either live or on film (Yes Butte. I know. I know....). I can't speak for Class A and below. The comments above are right on about him. Great arm, vision, line. Good receivers. Great running back and tight end make it easier for him also. Doesn't move great, but can when he has to.

As for the Sims kid, I have watched him since he was in about 4th grade. Has always been the "BIG" kid on the block. Great athlete. Plays with a chip. It will be interesting to see how he competes in football when he is playing against others the same size. I understand that he has been playing AAU basketball and excelling there too. Stevensville will be VERY tough in basketball this year. Anyone know if he is leaning football or basketball? I have heard both.

Not to take anything away from Weyer, but if you scroll down on that NW sports article about the Stevensville kid you can read about Dallas Cook. Currently No 2 all time in passing in Montana highschool history with at least four games to go. Bozeman high has a super team, but not only does cook pass better, stronger. But he does run with 1300 yards rushing so far.

Actually I do know, these kids come from a great and down to earth family with super values. Alycia was valedictorian of her class last year and Jesse is a polite (and quiet) teen who says "yes sir" and "no mam" You won't find either of them in any trouble and they were raised to believe there is more important priorities in life than sports.

Jesse is "leaning" towards football, just leaning but so much has to do with what programs offer him in the next year. Universities have shown more interest in him as a football player (so far)

He's not dead set on an FBS school and being a Grizzly is not out of the question. He just wants a good fit, a good atmosphere and a good education wherever he goes. He will be an asset both on and off the field as will Alycia.

Furthermore he is done with HS Football for this year. Busted up his hand a little, nothing that should give him problems in the future hopefully. Surgery went well, cast on till beginning of November, he will have a couple weeks to get some strength back in it before B ball.

Did he get pins or anything that would need to be removed later? I had heard he hurt it, but didn't hear the extent.

Nope, he didn't even think it was too bad initially but he's not a complainer, would have liked to keep playing. When the cast comes off should be good to go if he does what the Doc says. Will be fun to watch him play at the next level wherever that is.

I like the part about "He's not dead set on an FBS school and being a Grizzly is not out of the question."!

There is hope! I get sick when the top MT kids go out of state...I understand it, but I wish we could keep them.
