Good idea? Mistake? What do you think?

I think it's a damn good idea. If there was a place for him to finish his career, it's there.

Thank God the Braves didn't get him. They wanted him to be an everyday outfielder and he can't do that anymore. In Seattle they can use him in the outfield when needed and use him as a DH as well.

The Braves wanted him to platoon in left with Matt Diaz with Diaz getting most of the playing time at the beginning of the season. One of the reasons he chose the Mariners was because of the better opportunity for playing time. But I do agree with this decision. Finish where you started. Get to rest some while DHing.

I love Griffey being back in Seattle. I feel he should have not ever left to begin with. Seattle and Griffey are a perfect match. Maybe this will bring good Karma back to Griffey and the Mariners.

Great PR move, the only guy on the team besides Felix that M's fans will go see on a regular basis. Looks like the guys are really going to stink it up, but with King Felix and The Kid back in town, that probably doesn't really matter right now.

It's gonna put more butts in the seats at Safeco that's for sure.

The Braves got Glavine back again yesterday as well.

Meh. It will placate the casual fan and give the new GM room to manuever and rebuild. They had to pare payroll from $110 mil to $95 mil, with no big contracts coming off the books so it's not like they could afford any of the bigger FA hitters.

With Beltre, Bedard, Washburn and Batista coming off the books before the 2010 season, they will have cap space and another good position in the draft to help the rebuild. This year is about playing the young players, working the trade market at the deadline and working the draft. They've got holes and the new GM has filled them with one year stop gap players, injury rehab guys and low risk/moderate upside young guys. Griffey fits right in with that model as a one year stop gap LH bat.

It's going to take the team a few years to dig out of the hole that Bavasi dug for them but it appears that Zurencik knows what he is doing. This has been just about the smartest off season I've seen the M's have since Gillick left. And not because of Griffey.
