Half those guys were walk-ons, they came to him not the other way around. BH is a classless piece of crap and is showing his stuff at UNLV.

Walk-ons don't just come to the team and show up at practice, at least most of the time. They are recruited. They are invited to come to a game in Missoula. Walk-ons just don't get a scholarship initially.

I would be thrilled to see BH come back. The guy was pure Montana and beat the cats a$$ in recruiting Montana kids.

Plus having BH, would bring Alpha back to life. When we are losing Alpha doesn't seem to complain much, but with BH winning, he seemed to be in misery and would share his lack of wisdom on a regular basis.

Bobby never had DD
Neither did Dennehy or cowboy Joe. Glenn had a better record than Hauck and won the NC.

What does Dennehy have to do with that?

I'm sort of wondering if Bobby Hauck will ever be added to the list of coaching legends on the GoGriz website. They have Swarthout, Read, Dennehy and Glenn. Seems to me that Bobby enjoyed more success than Dennehy (or failures if you count losing the NC games). Hauck had more wins, higher winning percentage and made it to the Chipper 3 times. Dennehy had three 1 and outs in the playoffs..he did have the 1996 team that went undefeated until the Marshall game.

if you've had little good to say about bobby hauck over the past several years, you've always had a seat next to me. not the charm of joe glenn. terrible with the press. never won the title game.

but wait a minute. maybe it's time to look at the talent level.

last year's secondary included tru, the highest draftee in our history, plus lisowski, who made a stir at the seahawks camp. then there was mcsurdy, who might yet play for the cowboys.

prior year, you could have mixed in jimmy wilson, now with the dolphins.

prior to that, colt and shan shillinger. plus kroy, mariani, carpenter and hilliard.

except for tru, these guys surprised us all with their achievements at the pro level. why, it was argued for years that montana kids couldn't even compete at the wac level, let alone the pro level. these kids showed the skeptics about the quality of montana football.

they were all hauck recruits.

as i look at our current roster, i wonder: are we looking at the football equivalent of a brain drain? is the talent simply not what it's been? did pflu recruiit to the level of hauck? can this staff?

hauck may be on thin ice at unlv. but he is unquestionably bringing up the talent level, and getting a lot of the local nevada kids to look again at staying home.

did we "misunderestimate" his recruiting talent?
Tuff Harris.

Except Mariani and Anderson (and possibly others) weren't "recruits"...they were walkons.

Nope, football. He was state class A doubles champ, tho, I believe. Playing tennis instead of doing track is credited with schools not knowing how fast he was.

Walk-ons are recruits (who don't get scholarships).

Seems that this part of recruiting his hard to understand.

Joe lost his first game and three of his last four. In between he was 38-2. He had Drew Miller and later Brandon Neill and didn't use him. BH had Ochs. He had two separate streaks of 23-1 and 24-1; impressive, but no chipper.

Some jagoff on Twitter was arguing with me yesterday.. he was telling me how close UNLV is and blah blah blah.. I told him UNLV is a basketball school and football will never be successful there. So just for giggles I looked it up and sure enough I was right. I think I counted something like UNLV has had 7 winning seasons since 1980 and 16 in the history of their program. I don't think Hauck is the problem at UNLV.. definitely the city, school, and culture of football in Las Vegas.
You must be 90 yrs old, Titleist. Your mind is so set on the history of UNLV that you can't imagine the school, no matter who is coach, having a good if not dominant football team. Get over it. Hauck is bringing that program along. Get over it. Oh, I forget.........you're a Cowboy. 'Nuff said. How's that team doing?

I wouldn't sit in my glass house and throw rocks if I was you. Hauck has won 5 games in his time at UNLV.. every MW team has won more games than that during Hauck's time.. that makes him the losingest coach in the MW since he arrived. But yes, that program is coming along..

He was a great recruiter, but you are really missing the boat. He was a great coach, he is a dying breed of old style football coaches. While he may not have had the charm of Glenn or a national championship all he did was win games. A high percentage of coaches would love to have the record he had at Montana without a national championship. The guy knows football and what it took to get the most out of his players and the list of players he put in the NFL is the proof. It did not always make him the most popular person with everyone including his players, but the one thing has from his old players is respect.
