Yep. Pretty sad. Win or lose, the Saturday game means nothing, other than to end the season on a "winning" note.

As they progressively get worse. It probably doesn’t matter. Griz look like a one and done team.

Just to wrap this up, I thought I’d post this final weekend.

Saturday, March 5 Schedule
Northern Arizona at Idaho … 3:00 pm
Portland State at Eastern Washington … 3:00 pm
Northern Colorado at Montana State … 4:00 pm
Southern Utah at Weber State … 6:00 pm
Sacramento State at Montana … 7:00 pm

I found an interesting article from the PSU web site. They play EWU and the game will decide who gets the the sixth and seventh seeds, since the other teams are well back. https://goviks.com/news/2022/3/4/me...-seed-in-big-sky-tournament-on-the-line.aspx

Here’s a part of the tournament schedule I found particularly interesting.
Thursday, March 10, 2022, live streamed on ESPN+
Game 4 – No. 1 Seed vs. Game 1 Winner, Noon
Game 5 – No. 4 Seed vs. No. 5 Seed, 2:30 p.m.
Game 6 – No. 2 Seed vs. Game 2 Winner, 5:30 p.m.
Game 7 – No. 3 Seed vs. Game 3 Winner, 8 p.m.
I had forgotten that the 5 seed played the 4 seed in the second round, rather than one of the lower-tier teams that had already played (and won) a game. At the moment, Weber, Southern Utah, and Northern Colorado are all tied at (13-6) for two thru four. But they play tough games today, and the results will decide who the Griz face in their first tournament game. It’s going to come down to the tiebreakers: If we assume that the kitties, on their home court, can beat UNC, then it will come down to a comparison of UNC and the loser of the SUU-WSU game.

Sadly, except for the record, the Griz game tonight makes absolutely no difference in any of this.

End Game playing out.

Northern Colorado leads Montana State at half time, 39-38.

Other games are in the last minute or so:
Idaho leads NAU, 68-61.
EWU leads PSU, 72-64

Getting a little chippy in bozoland ... T-foul on the puddy-tats. Bears lead 55-51.

BSC refs closing "in character": 33 fouls called with over 9 min left in the game. Score 67-62 Bears.

So if Weber wins we play SUU. If SUU wins do we play Weber or NCU?

I didn't check the accuracy but thought I heard the WSU announcers say the winner of SUU-WSU gets #2 seed while loser would get #4 seed

Refs must have gotten bored with the whole thing. Ended up calling "only" 43 fouls, and nobody fouled out.

That’s probably right. The winner will go to (14-6) and clearly be #2. The loser will go to (13-7) … tied with Northern Colorado for #3/4. UNC won both games against SUU and split with Weber. I did not dive into the second-level tiebreakers with WSU, but the announcer’s statement suggests that those also favor UNC for the #3 seed.

The Griz can't continue to be so piss-poor shooting treys, can they? :(

Sadly, they probably can. (But I Hope not.)

GO GRIZ! :egriz:

I agree with most of what you are saying, Ida. My Wilds haven't been playing as well as the Bobs lately. It looks very much like MSU will win the championship. As for the second prize, the Tournament, I would say it is a wide, open affair. The BSC has proven to be more balanced than previously thought. There are going to be some dog fights in Boise. It will be hardest for a bottom 6 team to pull off 4 wins in 5 days, but not out of the question. Of the top 5 teams, it will be a matter of who gets hot and who has the conditioning and depth to win 3 games in 3 days. It will certainly be interesting and fun to see.

Below are the percentage of bench minutes for the conference. I would say UNC and WSU are at a disadvantage when it comes to winning 3 games in 3 days. UNC is highly reliant upon the 3-ball which seems like it would be negatively impacted based on the tournament format. In terms of minutes played for UNC Kountz (2) and Johnson (8) are in the top 8 in the conference.

WSU is the only team with three players in the top 5 with Jawara (3), McEwen (4) and Jones (5) playing heavy minutes. Haven't watched WSU outside of the UM games but I think you can make the argument that the heavy minutes are already starting to take a toll.

NAU has 2 players in the top 7 (Cone and Mains). BIshop (6), Fowler (9) and Venters (10) round out the top 10.

Also worth noting that the top 3 in bench minutes seemed to be playing much, much better towards the end of the season. Obviously could be a variety of factors, but interesting nonetheless.

PSU, ISU, UI, UM, and SUU have zero players in the top 10.

PSU 38.5% of bench minutes
ISU 37.2
UI 34.9
UM 30.4
NAU 30.1
MSU 29.6
SUU 27.8
Sac 24.8
EWU 23.1
WSU 22.1
UNC 21.5
Interesting that the only team in this bunch "PSU, ISU, UI, UM, and SUU have zero players in the top 10." to make it to the semi's is PSU. IMHO, that argument just doesn't have legs, pun intended.
