The Ellis Henderson Story

Outstanding intestinal fortitude Mr. Henderson! Never give in, never surrender, you are worth fighting for sir. If some moronic idiot calls u names it does nothing more than put on clear display their own ignorance and idiocy. It takes a helluva lot of guts to put yourself out there like that, and BC of it know you've already defeated the demons. I'll be praying for u whether or not u ever catch another pass for the Griz, BC GRIZ nation takes care of its own and we more than consider you one of our own, you're family. Take care of yourself young man!

Very courageous of Ellis to come forward with this. The stigma that is put on people with depression needs to be erased. IT IS REAL and IT IS A PROBLEM. My wife has battled depression most of her life and through the grace of God, she is still alive today. There is so much we don't know about the chemical make up of our brain and body that it is scary to think how many people can live and not be ok. I pray that more people in the spotlight like Ellis come out and bring awareness to this epidemic and give it the attention and study that it needs. Again, Ellis, thank you for your courage.

Thank you for sharing this story of courage and perseverance. Depression is as real and as physical as cancer or diabetes. It should never be a source of shame. You have opened doors for others to seek treatment and to confide in family and friends. Your grace is refreshing and inspiring.

How did we get so lucky as to be able to call EH a Griz? He AND his parents should be very, very proud of him...for reasons that go far, far beyond his skill on the gridiron. As someone said earlier in this thread, he is mature beyond his years and will go very far in this world.

Proud of any NCAA Athlete whom can muster up the courage to come forward with candor on such a subject!

I have dealt with anxiety and it can be almost crippling when you don't want to leave the house or do things you enjoy. Ellis sounds like an amazing young man and I'm glad he came forward to tell his story. As others hAve said depression is a real disease and unfortunately men in paticular don't want to admit anything is wrong with them especially when it comes to something " mental" .

God bless you, EH. I love your honesty and your open discussion of your situation. I pray you will be able to play for the Griz the next couple years, but .... if that doesn't work out, I am thankful that you were/are a Griz, and I hope the rest of your life is better than you can even dream.

Ellis. One of our daughters fought the same fight as you are going through. A session in an instution with top doctors using various medications and she came out of it OK. But in her case she started to run every day and she found herself again and was able to quit all of her medications as long as she ran. She teaches school now and has veen going strong for almost ten years. Husband with two kids. We recently had a scare as her foot developed pain and she had to stop running. After a new female Dr. helped her she is doing just fine. Her doctor is a runner and must have understood the issue.
I am telling this to help you. We thought we lost her and we almost did. We now laugh and joke about it but for a few years her mother and I did not sleep worrying about her! We understand your situation and don't you dare give up. You will find a way to deal with it. Damn proud of you to take this issue head on. We are all behind you!

wow.....great read. Lots of people dealing with sever depression out there, hopefully he'll be able to serve as an example to seek help.

Ellis is my new hero on so many levels. Depression has always been a part of my life. Not true for everyone, but for some it is chronic and pervasive. His story will help so many.

Very glad for Ellis! However, I don't know if I can get used to 3 to 7...10 to 7 had a ring. We need to get another sane! Maybe Gus will change his number?...naw, I will get used to 3 to 7 time!!!!

Good for Ellis, it's awesome that he can open up about this and shed some light on it which will definitely inspire others. Reading this reminded me of the Jason DeShaw story. Not sure if any of you have seen him perform but he has a great message as he has battled similar demons. He grew up in Plentywood. Great guy.

I take from the article that basically 1 in 7 Americans suffer from depression and anxiety disorder.

So the next time you walk into a room look around, if there are at least 7 of you in the room, 1 of you is suffering.

So the next time you walk into WA Griz stadium, 1 out of 7 fans means that 3,600 fans are suffering.
