I know this is softball, but man it deserves a discussion. Stef Ewing has the Griz softball program turned around in less than two seasons. After Pinkerton left, this team was abysmal with a staff who did nothing to make improvements. Ewing comes in just last year and they girls were playing for a conf championship this season. They just got their first win in the Big Sky tourney since 2022. Anna Cockhill from Helena blasted 3 homeruns in the win. Sweet, our pitcher transfer, dominated like she has all year. This team is still very young too! Go Griz!

They got no-hit double digit times last season and turned around to nearly win the league title this year. The fact that their best player is a sophomore from Helena makes it even more cool. Great story, really fun team to cover.
We were really rooting for them to beat Idaho State in the regular-season finale. I think that if UM hosted a Big Sky Tournament, Missoula would come out in droves for that.
