The Bubble is down!

Honest question- I seem to recall that the bubble was delayed for at least a season because there was an issue with the foundation and it couldn’t carry the load - I might have the wording wrong but I am sure that it was late opening because it didn’t pass inspection- is the current foundation now approved for a real building? Or will that require a new inspection and permit?

Truthfully I am not opposed to a bubble as a concept but this thing has been an embarrassment to the university and the AD from the jump and is as ugly as sin. I honestly don’t think they could have done worse. It might have been the right decision- it has been horrible execution.

My understanding the delay was an occupancy issue during city permitting and a base issue related to moisture due to the wet weather and not a fundamental design issue.

That bubble should’ve been tested in Livingston. If the bubble can make it through a winter in Livingston, it would survive anywhere, including Missoula.

Some on here may be old enough to remember going into the grocery store and all the generic items in nondescript white packaging with nothing but black letters that spelled elaborate words like "beer", "corn", and "crackers". I only wish the bubble was at this adequate level of quality.

The macaroni and cheese was edible when you didn't have the extra quarter for Kraft. IIRC the "beer" was from the Lucky brewery. I liked animal beer better but for .99 cents a six pack it wet your whistle when one or the other was on sale. You could usually scrounge that up between pants pockets in the hamper and couch cushion excavation.

I know it's easy to blame Kent for the lack of developing a bigger donor base than Denny, but truthfully hasn't it always been like this? The guy before that you all love was the same wasn't he? I mean did O'Day really have anyone else besides Denny?

O’Day was a very dynamic personality and he could broaden the net. I don’t think you could say the same about Kent. To compare the two is somewhat unfair due to the span of time and the environment. You are correct though about the big donors. Imagine Oregon without Phil Knight? I would actually say the comparison between AD’s might be the wrong angle. It should be President’s and football coaches. Look at what has happened at Indiana and MSU. Cignetti is a great fundraiser. Cruzado was a phenom for fundraising. U of M finally has a president who looks the part and a dynamic personality at the helm of the football program. Haslam needs to do his part for sure. I am not saying he is the right guy for the job. Just think he gets assigned blame for much bigger systemic problems.

Last Saturday i was slumming down by the river and walked past the bubble on my way to the farmers market and noticed by the entrance it was caved in. I could not have been the only person to see this.

IF....IF the bubble was deflated by a human and not the weather, I wonder how long it takes to deflate. Do you pull a plug and jump out of the way? Is it a slow process like over the course of a couple hours getting pumped out?
