A great history lesson for some of our newer fans who think that 2009 was the greatest Griz season ever, Bobby Hauck was our greatest coach ever, and Marc Mariani was the best Griz ever (with all due respect to all three, of course).

Started my day today watching this off the Montana Athletics Facebook page. Frickin' AWESOME!

Those of us that have been around long enough know Dickenson was the man....even us Bobcat fans.

That was a lot of fun to watch, my first game ever was the EKU game my dad took me to it when I was 12. Good thing the cats weren't good then or I might be a cat fan.

Great video! This was my first year as a Griz fan after getting transferred to Missoula.

Season ticket holder ever since! :thumb:

Brint,

Oh man, what a great video. Thanks for that. That my friend made my day. :thumb:

Go Griz!

Made mine yesterday, I was having a frustrating day overall but that cheered me up.

Those WR's (Wells, Erhardt, Douglass, Pacheco) were THE best down field blockers. Wells, for being 5'7", could knock dudes flat on their ass way too easy. ....Great days! Thanks for posting that.

Wow ... So many great memories!

#1. SFA. I flew in late on Friday night from a business trip and hit the Missoula air terminal when a bunch of Austin cheer squad people were there waiting for transportation. One steps outside and comes back in and I hear this plaintive cry: "Seven degrees!? That's not a temperature!" (It WAS damn cold.) I actually felt sorry for them when the Griz hung 70 on them.

#2: NC game. We're screaming our brains out -- bad mistake for M to put us together -- and the home fans are wondering, "Who are these people?" Then we think .. we flustered the QB and the D recorded the safety. Nirvana!

#3: Super-Dave wills the team down the field to put us in position for the winning FG.

Afterward, despite the crushing disappointment, the Marshall fans were a pretty class act. I also (vaguely) recalled that we drained the plane of every kind of booze, and yet no one came down off the high.

I was a 5th grader sitting on the floor watching the game in front of the TV on mute listening to the radio (as we always did at our house). I won't forget that day.

that was a special year for Griz football! I loved every minute of it!
My memories of the NC game was how quiet the Marshall crowd was. I mean for a crowd that big they weren't making much noise. Anyhow when we got off the bus to get in the game someone was handing out plastic quart milk jugs with some stones in them to use as noise makers. So we walked right in with them and no one said anything.
And as Idagriz said we were mostly all in the same area by the end zone were we had marshal backed up to. And we went crazy!!! A couple of thousand Montana fans sounded wayyy loud!! I believe It really took Marshall by surprise. I believe we were louder than their 28,000 fans had been all day. (OK I'm bias)
So when we got on the bus to go to the airport we were listening to the radio and I think they were interviewing Marshall's Coach...and he complained about our " illegal " noise makers causing the safety. I had to laugh. That's the best excuse he could come up with for getting beat in their stadium.
What a game! what a year! what a coach! what a Quarterback ! What a team! thanks for the memories!

I was there too....the best of the Griz years. Dave & Co. were simply the best Griz team ever, including the last NC and the present run....no disrepect boys, but that's the way it was & is!

We weren't at Marshall for the game, but watched it on TV. And then went to the airport to meet the plane and welcome the boys home. We waited there at the airport for a couple hours, but it was an absolute blast. Everyone was just so-o-o-o happy and so proud. And when the team got off the plane and walked the gauntlet through the fans, you could have heard the cheers all the way back to West Virginia. It will always be one of my very favorite memories.

Thanks for posting.Wonderful memories. I was working at Anthonys in Billings, when my Dad was calling me to give updates. When Larson lined for the field goal, I remember my manager and other customers telling me to put Dad on speaker phone. Dad wasnt going to do it, but when I said everyone wants to know if he made it. The whole store broke out in excited pandioum. Of course there is one person who doesnt get it. A co-worker who was on break couldnt figure out why everyone was yelling and screaming Up With Montana. I told her to go in a fitting room and not come out until she could play well with others. My managers face turned white, then she and the other customers started laughting. By the way fellow e-grizzeers, could you assist in finding a 2001 championship coffee cup, shot glass or 2001 pint glass when Montana won it all in 2001? Please pm if you can help. Thanks.

I was there for every game except the Georgia Southern (killed me to miss it) game. I also went to WV for the "once in a lifetime" game. Boy were we wrong about that. The "95" championship was one of the great lifetime memories that I will cherish forever. There was way too much that happened to mention. I will say the chartered flight down and back was a memory in itself. The Marshall fans, although shocked at the outcome, were hugely respectful and gracious. Thanks for posting the video and bringing back memories that are so special. I wish I could watch each one of those playoff games in their entirety.

I was a junior at the U for that game. A bunch of my buddies (high school football teammates and guys I had played against) were on that team, so it was even more fun to watch my friends kicking ass! Me and a room mate were at one of the playoff games in the student section when I saw a photog with a HUGE telephoto aim it right at us. My buddy gave him the thumbs up and I gave him the #1 and it looked like he zoomed right in on us. The next morning my dad called and said "hey yer on the front page of the paper!" I grabbed the the first paper I could find and expected to see a wide crowd shot with me in it somewhere. What I found was an almost 1/2 page photo of me, my buddy and our Griz gear cheering our hearts out. The headline annonced the Griz blowout from the afternoon before! That pic ended up on most of the front pages in Montana that sunday.

We tried to get to WV for the NC, but it just wasn't gonna work out with finals. So I did the next best thing...went skiing at SnowBowl! I remember it as a powder day, whether it really was, I don't know. I do remember skiing down to the lift shack and getting updates between powder runs. At the end of the game it was me, one of the good-old boy lift mechanics and a dread-headed hippy lift operator listening to the game on the radio at one of the lift shacks. When "the kick" went through the uprights we all let out a roar that was probably be heard down in Missoula. What a time to be part of GrizNation!

GO GRIZ, let's do it again this year!!!
