THANK YOU LADY GRIZ!

We all love and support the Lady GRIZ, and thank you for another great conference season. It really is a shame we cannot get another level of athlete here for Robin. It is frustrating when we just had one in our own backyard. Good luck and best wishes to Sonya, Mandy, Britney, and Tam. Please let your girls be LG in the next 20 to 30 years. By then Mandy will be coaching the LG.

You are welcome to your opinion. We need more depth with the caliber of frontline players. 1 or 2 most years will not bring the success at the NCAA tournament level. For Robin or any basketball coach to take it to higher levels, they need more quality depth.

That is not dissing our program. The same can be said seperates BCS elite programs from elite FCS programs. The depth is much more talented beyond the frontline players.

Paint it how you want. I know how I would take it if I was coming off the bench as a senior and reading your post. I was thanking this years team for their winning year, not trying to get Robin better players and more depth. I think you need to look out the window and realize that this is FCS and not BCS, and the Lady Griz are one of the best!

Basketball wise there are not 2 seperate divisions. Baskeball wise we are at the highest collegiate classification. Just because that is the case does not mean I do not appreciate the efforts of every GRIZ athlete. I very much appreciate every player that represents Montana.

It has been mentioned many times how nice it would be for any one of our basketball programs to make a splash nationally, and get more recognition. For that happen, our basketball programs need more depth or play near perfect games to make a big splash. I am sure past GRIZ basketball players wish they had played with deeper teams on the national level.

We can agree to disagree on our outlook of the programs. It does not make you, me or anyone more or less thankful or appreciative. I for one, would love for either or both programs to be at a higher level. For that to happen, they have to have more talent.

I too love the winning and dominating our conference in both football and womens basketball. What is wrong with wanting it on the national level? Nothing, just like there is nothing wrong with the opposite outlook. We all have different mindsets, expectations, etc. One is not more right than the other. I am sure many GRIZ fans will side with you, and others will side with me. That is what being a fan is all about.

Thank you again Ladies for another great season. Thank you Robin for being a state treasure and for being loyal like no other coach has ever been at Montana.

SEATTLE -- Pitt struggled in the first half against upstart Montana in an NCAA tournament first-round game as the Lady Griz were able to slow things down to a crawl and force the Panthers to play a half-court game.

The Panthers led by a point at the half. But the Panthers turned up the heat with their pressure defense in the second half and the Lady Griz simply melted as they couldn't handle Pitt's superior size, athleticism and quickness -- nor did they have an answer for Shavonte Zellous.

Pitt's defensive pressure sparked a 23-2 run to start the second half and it blew open what had been a close game. The Panthers, who scored 24 points off 14 Lady Griz turnovers, cruised to an impressive 64-35 victory in the Oklahoma City regional at Bank of America Arena.

Montana's Mandy Morales (3) is double-teamed by Pittsburgh's Chelsea Cole (22) and Sophronia Sallard (2) Saturday in Seattle in the first half of their first-round women's NCAA college basketball tournament game.

SEATTLE — Saturday night wasn't the first time that the Pitt women's basketball team showed up as one squad in the first half and a completely different team in the second.

But this wasn't a conference game in January, this was the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. After the first half, the team with plans to get past the Sweet Sixteen seemed in danger of an upset at the hands of No. 13 seed Montana (28-5).

... "I think our press was awesome," Scott said. "It's so much fun whenever you can get on a roll defensively, get a lot of stops on defense and that creates your offense. We had eight steals, and that really helped with our offense getting energized." And while both coaches said there was nothing either team could do to surprise the other, Berenato said Pitt may have given Montana a new look. "Honestly, I don't know that Montana has seen that type of press," she said. "They said they were really prepared for us because they played Maryland. But we beat Maryland by 30 with that press."
