Texas A&M/Arkansas Starting QB sends tape to UM

Our two National Championships were both won with Montana kids at QB if I am not mistaken?

True. Different era now though. Back then FBS quality kids would not even think about playing 1-AA football. Now they do.
No it’s still the same. It’s incredibly rare for a kid to choose not to play in FBS. Dave Dickinson and Johnny Edwards did not have FBS offers. And just because we won National Titles with Montana QB’s doesn’t mean we should start one every year lol. Should we only recruit and start Oregon LB’s now because of Dante Olsen?

Family heard back from Director of Football Player Personnel, Lennard Manke. Since they already have a transfer QB they are not interested in Nick. Bummer :?

It might be different if the transfer QB had the ability to play more than just one year. It would be better for competition and the player could still develop into the system and likely be more effective, provide leadership, etc. I would gladly still take another transfer QB who still had 2-3 years left if it ever materialized and increased the competition at the position. As an example, if a situation like this (or similar) ever presented itself and they were interested in the Griz: https://gohuskies.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=9533

The QB room is pretty crowded. Humphrey, Graves, Brown, Patterson, Rostad. Reading through the lines you have to think Graves gets moved to another spot if he isn’t top 2 in early spring. Humphrey will lead the charge but Brown and Patterson will push for the 2-3 battle. Wouldn’t be surprised to so Patterson’s agility draw attention. Rostad has to be planned to RS and then complete for the starting job in 21.

I believe Graves has already been moved to another spot. WR. Rostad will RS. That leaves Humphrey, Patterson & Brown. There’s room.

A lot of things in life are just a matter of timing. Please keep us up to date on where he ends up.

FYI: Nick Starkel is headed to SJSU

Thanks Bowmat. All the best to him.

Ronan, ‘84... I played for coach Starkel. His son was our QB. I don’t remember either’s first name. But as far as this board goes... I never played the game.

I am an '84 RHS grad as well and played football for 3 different coaches in my high school years. Bobby Zentner my frosh season, Scott Sward My sophomore and junior seasons, and Mark Clinton my senior year. Murray Starkel was our quarterback those 4 years and Nick is his son, to which this thread is referring.

Are you referring to Norm Starkel? He had two sons, Chet and Ty. I think they both played at MT Tech too.

Yes! Thank you. This egg of mine never did remember a first name.
And I never intended to imply we had the same coaches or teammates. My bad. I was only saying I played for and with a Starkel.

I heard once Brown caught onto the offense he really started excelling. Watch for him to make a move.

Relative of mine sent his highlights to Hauck and Co. Yesterday in hopes to continue playing possibly at the FCS level. He would be a graduate transfer. Transferred after his junior (graduate) year from Texas A&M to Arkansas after being beat out by Kellen Mond for the QB1 after Jimbo Fisher took over for Sumlin. He has possibly one year of eligibility left, but is also considering at looking to get a shot at the NFL. I am not sure what the NCAA transfer rules would be for this type of move....? It was a tough year at Arkansas, coaching change in the latter half of the season, back and forth quarterback changes between Nick and Graduate transfer from SMU-Ben Hicks. Portland State damn near upset the Razorbacks at home this year. Nick's dad (my uncle), and I graduated from Ronan HS in 1984.

You graduated HS with your uncle?

Yes, my mother is the fourth child of a family of 12. This uncle was the 11th child, so I have an uncle that is even younger than me. Big seed potato farming family.

Holy shit! That’s impressive!

That is a hilarious song, but this is just simply a large family in which the siblings are spread over two generations from the first to to the last. Oldest sibling is around 82. My mother is the 4th sibling out of 12 and is 72 and the youngest sibling is 53. The youngest sibling and I graduated together and he is my Uncle.
