Tell Me This

Well, I have to agree with BSBob on this one. EWU has had a long succession of good QBs for 15 years or so. Baldwin just seems to keep attracting them and frankly I do not see how. The Eastern overall environment is no where near UMs IMO. And, Brady was recruited by Pflugrad to run an offense similar to Stitt's, so the coaching change thing is dubious. Jensen is really Stitt's first QB recruited that has the talent to shine in his system, and he could be a star. JJ was outstanding. but wasn't allowed to fulfill his potential. Other than that........

I want to see Jensen run this team. They guy is 6'2 215lbs and has played in a system just like Stitts when he was in HS.

My prediction is that Phillips will be the QB next year.

I think that is probably correct.

Let get back to the topic here, why does Montana have such a tough time recruiting QB's?

We haven't really had a great QB since Bergquist thats for sure

Except for Jordan Johnson, who is in with the top QB's UM has ever had.

Take it one step even further. Many school in the BSC recruit just as well as UM does on a continual basis. The sad part is they do it with much less too. No great fan base, 25 seat stadium, new to be built champions center. UM is spending a ton of money to what hopefully be able to out recruit EWU, SUU, ISU. If we have to do all this just to get "back" to being Montana we are in trouble!

This. Wish he'd have had an opportunity to play in Pflugrads o his entire career.

This is my first post so I will be brief. Why is EWU's young receiving corp-minus Kupp- play veteran-esque and the GRIZ receivers struggle like normal rookies?

Just how good do you think Gubrud would be if he was throwing to any other group of receivers in the FCS other than Easterns?

Get a system going that is successful and continue it, look at what robin Selvig did, after a while it just rolls.
What have we had in continuity ? How many coaches have we had in the 10 years ?

You will never see 551 total yds and 6 tds from Gus, ever!

Maybe if you count the yardage and TDs from the interceptions.

Had to do it. Just having fun

well....when you realize their other 3 top receivers are........a 5th year senior......a redshirt junior.....and a 4th year senior.....not sure why you say young.....

Yeah, I'm hoping for a 4 year starter as well.

Not hyped at all but Stitt has a freshman QB recruit not named Gresch Jensen.

Is bubble growler, alpha, or PR? My bet is on the pickle.

By the way, did you know PR has a wife? Wow!

A lot more continuity in coaching and establishing a system at EWU over the last decade. EWU is on their 2nd Head Coach with a great passing offensive scheme. Meanwhile the GRIZ have been through how many different Head Coaches, coordinators, staffs, different offenses, schemes, and strategies?

The GRIZ have went from Hauck and a questionable OC (Phenecie), which was more of a ball control, ground and pound type offense, which was not QB friendly for stat stuffing. Then, enter Pflugrad who had to implement his offense a little slower than he and many others would have liked, due to personnel not suited for his system, or needed time to execute his system.

Unfortunately, Pflugrad got screwed after his 2nd season, a season in which that offense and JJ were exciting in the 2nd half of the season. I'd argue that offense and JJ was every bit as effective as EWU, the 2nd half of that season. No doubt, JJ and Pflu's offense would have put up huge numbers had Pflu been able to stay through JJ's senior season.

Enter Delaney, with an entirely different offense. That offense limited JJ's potential. Despite that, how many games was he the main reason for the GRIZ pulling out games they had no business winning? Now, enter Stitt, with another system, which is another year or 2 away from having all the players he wants and needs for his offense to live up to it's potential. Last season the GRIZ OL was inconsistent, qb's injured, and difficult circumstances for an offense to find consistency, let alone be dominating. The injuries alone deterred the whole offense and QB development. Enter this season, for the most part, a whole new group of WR's for QB's to learn. I fully expect this offense to be inconsistent through the 1st 4 to 6 games. I feel this offense will make gradual progress as the season moves forward. Got to give Stitt at least 3 full seasons to give a fair evaluation of his offense and program direction.

EWU's stability in QB, WR, and overall offense is a huge selling point and benefit for potential recruits. Like it or not, due to stability, they are an offensive jaugernaut, year in and year out. Even then, that offense can struggle from time to time. The GRIZ defense proved that last season. Their offense and QB's looked average, at best in that game.

EWU had patience and it has paid off. It is very important for GRIZ NATION to have patience and stay loyal to Stitt as he builds this program, his way. That is one reason I love the Stitt hire. I see him as someone who will not be willing to jump ship, unless the perfect opportunity comes his way. I can only see him leaving the GRIZ for a traditional BCS power program. I am excited to see how his offense and program develops as he gives the GRIZ much needed stability.

In this case, rather than bitch, moan, criticize GRIZ coaches, qb's, players, etc, I feel EWU should be applauded for having patience paying off. Then again, I am sure their fans feel similar about their defense as we do about our offense. I feel the GRIZ are much closer to EWU's offense than EWU's defense is to the GRIZ defense. I honestly believe Stitt will be the man to lead the GRIZ back to national prominence. The question is, how long will it take?

If memory serves, for UM coaches dating back to Don Read, and for coaches that stay longer than two years, they generally have their most successful years in their second and third years, for whatever reasons.

Hmm. Thought Stitt's system was like no other.

At its core Stitts offense is read option football. The innovation of Stitts offense is how he exploits what the defense is doing.

not to take anything away from the ewu qb.....he truly could be the 2nd coming. however, when you throw the ball almost 2x as much as you run...and you have copper kupp...you have a shot at putting up big numbers.

also, wsu's defense is abysmal. not msu '15 abysmal....but terrible just the same.

I think you guys got a pretty good qb in gus. he won't put up ungodly numbers because you appear to be pretty balanced. (one game I know but I see you had 43 rushes...43passes) I've always liked the kid. hope he does alright for ya.

The Cougs were predicted to challenge for the Pac 12 crown this year and Eastern put up more points Saturday than any of their opponents did last year, except Washington who also put up 45 against the Cougs last year.

A lot of credit needs to be given to Easterns new coach, Troy Taylor, who is the QB coach and Co-offensive coordinator. His game plan was perfect and his new offense for Eastern is going to give teams fits, as it did WSU...

Also, when you're covering Eastern's receivers, Kupp included, with Linebackers and Safeties, Eastern will throw it every time. Baldwin has also proven he will run the ball every time if you drop everyone back in coverage...
