I really wanted to see some sacks and major pressure from the defense, but it’s damn hard to argue the grade with the overall performance.

Injury. Knee? Not sure, hopefully won’t keep him out next fall.

ACL per the article.

More of the same from the O-Line...season after season the conversation remains the same.
Someone posts weight gains. Posters gush...
Someone posts experience gained "juniors and seniors"...Posters gush...
The other constant: same coach 7 years.

Run lanes were present in the 3rd quarter. We gashed CWU a few times once Harris was in the game then obviously the end around claimed 50. I agree we need to do better both on the oline and at RB finding the right holes. But honestly I think the o line was OK in the running game.
There were pancakes and a few times in the first half there were holes open and missed. So I think it’s a combination issue but I’m not panicked about the oline from what I watched
Agreed, and because of this, running backs just run into the mess anyway. They need to have better improvisations (eyes?) for future games.66volvo said:Complete mystery why our senior-heavy 300+ pound O line cannot move people off the ball. No holes, no running lanes, no push, no pancakes. They can pass block. Just cannot run block. An area of concern. Let's see if Bobby blisters them this week in practice and brings them out hungry next week.

I'm not panicked either. But, they are quite short of DOLA...

In a way, some did address the RPO issue: There seemed to be a great of concern about Humphrey not doing well on his "progressions." That could be interpreted as part of the RPO decision-making process.PlayerRep said:...
Hauck blamed lower yards per carry on the blockers and runners. His quote came pretty early yesterday, so I assume he didn't cheat and get his ideas from egriz. Note that none of our astute football analyst posters said anything about the RPO execution, to the my recollection.

Knight was missed. The team did score 59 points, which is more than good. Those were not defensive scores. CW was not turnover prone.
This is what Hauck said:
"“I thought it was good,” Hauck said. “I’d like to see us have a few more yards total. And I’d like to see our yards per carry be a little better. But again, that’s everybody has got to contribute, and we’ve got to read the RPO stuff better and we’ve got to get body on body better and we’ve got to get yards after contact better. We need work there.”

Hauck also said this:
"“Central made plays on the ball in the pass game. They beat guys up front and tackled us in the run game,” Hauck said. “We just didn’t win. We didn’t execute. They did. Good by them, and we got to be better.”

agreed. He did a good job making the decision when to pull and run, and made a nice move on the LB on the TD run to freeze him.
Brown's TD run was also a thing of beauty. Of course, that came against 4th stringers and the waterboy, so probably doesn't count.![]()

Ostmo's lack of speed and ability to dodge a tackle does not make the OL look any better either. They surprisingly looked better when Harris was in.66volvo said:Complete mystery why our senior-heavy 300+ pound O line cannot move people off the ball. SaskGriz said:Pulling, trapping, etc. is rare in this zone blocking scheme. And it's a shame. It requires OLmen that are not battleships and have footspeed and agility. Zone blocking requires a RB that can see a seam forming before it's there and have a burst to get through it. I see neither from Ostmo. Harris has both; I just hope the tiny guy can survive. We desperately need a Knight replacement if he's out for the season.AZGrizFan said:In our first game the line looked like battleships but not a rapid deployment force. We will have to see what happens in terms of pulling, trapping, etc. We can't use 5 to beat 3 and expect our running back to do all the heavy lifting.
To beat 3? So you don't consider the LBs to be part of the D front?
kemajic said:My bad, not in terms of LBs, they count depending on where they line up but CWU used a ton of 4 down line men. You are 100% on the kind of back we need for an RPO set up. Not writing off Ostmo after one game in two years. It will be interesting to see it all comes together with more reps.SaskGriz said:Pulling, trapping, etc. is rare in this zone blocking scheme.
