The Shark is dead. Along with him the last prominence of UNLV athletics...

I still shudder at the beating #1 seed UNLV gave the Griz in the first round the year Tarkanian won the NC with all those NBA players... what was it? Like 99-50? Pain... lots of pain.

oh, yes, that was a smackdown, and against a good griz team if i remember correctly. darren engleant was our center, so we had some size, and i believe roger fasting may have been on that team. but they had larry johnson, stacey augman and greg anthony, and it got ugly, quick.

...won his lawsuit...
...against the n c a a...
...a man ahead of his time...
...rip it up coach ...

... :( ...

Was coach TD on that team? I think so

The PGs that season were Eric Jordan (he started) and Keith Crawford. I don't think DeCuire was on that team. He was on the next year's team though that gave Florida State a game in the tournament I know. He backed up Crawford who was the starting PG that year.

If I remember right the starting lineup for the team that played UNLV was Eric Jordan at the point, Roger Fasting at the 2, Delvon Anderson at the 3, Kevin Kearney at the 4 and Engellant at center.

Was a hell of a team. Kearney was an undersized 4 but a hell of a scorer and rebounder.

EDIT: Looks like I was wrong, DeCuire was on that team that played UNLV, but he was redshirting (citay was likely pleased by this) :P

UNLV was undefeated when the Griz played them, but UNLV lost in the final four that year to eventual champion Duke.

Yep - i remember DeCuire made the NCAA little highlight clips they showed on breaks throughout the tournament - he wasn't in the game but he was jumping around in front of the bench twirling a towel. It was right after Engellant got a jam early in the game and bench was going nuts. Those two years were really really good teams. Kearny, despite his relatively small size (6' 5" I think) could jump straight up under the basket and dunk with authority, and did so often. We have hardly had a guy that would do that since... (not counting the 7 footers). That was a highly skilled, offensive firepower team.

The NCAA is so pissed at his death that they put Georgia State on two years probation.
I wonder which School in the Midwest will take the fall for University of North Carolina...no doubt the nc2a has a target.
