Besides Bobby Hauck (and all current DII coaches - because they're just not qualified), please list your top five candidates for the position. Also, please omit any coach whose current base salary is more than twice what we're paying Stitt:

I'm fine with Stitt for now, but if he left, then.

1. Pflu
2. Ty Gregorak
3. Andy Thompson
4. Justin Green
5. Choate

So in other words, 5 guys with no chance.

Perhaps, but the question wasn't who would be a candidate and have a realistic chance of being selected. It was "please list 5 candidates for the position".

Then why not pick Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Dabo Swinney, Chris Petersen, and David Shaw?

I f***[*] love how not even five weeks ago everyone was convinced that Stitt's offense just wasn’t going to work at this level, and now no one questions it.

I question it
The offense set the tone in Ogden, starting the game with three three-and-outs in the first four possessions. The other was an interception.

It does not work consistently. Good defenses scout, prepare and win against it. Not a real mystery; it looks great against the poor teams and racks up a lot of stats.

Totally agree. I just watched a reply of the Weber game. The Weber offensive scheme made be drool for what they were doing versus what Stitt does. I counted 21 different formations they used in the first half alone. In contrast, we do the same freaking thing over and over again. Our running game is as predictable as a Trump morning tweet. I long for an offense that can run the ball to set up the pass, and confuses the defense with multiple formations. Weber had inferior players on offense compared to ours, but their scheme allowed their inferior players to be more effective than ours. I can just imagine how many points we could score with our talent using their scheme.

I am not convinced his offense = National Championship contenders.

I know there are some examples of fast-paced, spread offenses having success...

I just believe ball-control, clock-killing, efficient offenses win in December and beyond. I've tried to keep an open mind about it because Stitt's offense is fun when it's working.

I can't remember a year when I was so disappointed with the defense. Special Teams...I have no words.

You are correct my man. Championships are won with defense, great special teams, and the ability to be balance between run/pass on offense. We lack three of those four elements

I don't think they would be good for UM. Ha. Because I believe part of the criteria was that their current salaries couldn't be more than double what UM pays.

Pflu was building a great program. GD shame.

?

!

I agree Pflu was on the cusp of something special. Smart guy with great offensive mind. I always felt he tried to put his in offense in too quickly (the first year) with Hauck recruits that were accustomed to grind in out. Should have phased it in. Pflu would be my first choice and no, i dont think he would set us back a bit.

Pflu was on staff for at least a year before being named head coach. He had rapport with the players which may have made it a smoother transition. Not sure that's an apples to apples comparison.

That being said. I think the "wait for his guys" mantra is a total sandbagging cop out. Using that as an excuse frustrates me to no end.

You are right on , also watch a southern Utah game sometime. You will be drooling and jacking off at the same time

If Stitt were to be let go I would welcome back Pflugrad in a minute. And no he would not take the program backwards.

How many yards did Weber‘s offense gain in the second half?

I'm with you, bro. I'd also like to see Tom Landry get a look if we are talking equal long shots.

Fair enough. I should probably have read the initial post.

Bud Grant would be good too, it was never louder and colder than the old Met Stadium.

I think we need a pie chart from Wahlberg because we have to factor in the chances of Dickenson and Mariani also.

You would probably want Jack Johnson....CMR’s retired coach who invented ground and pound. :coffee:

1. Pflu - Regents will never approve
2. Ty Gregorak - That bridge is done burned
3. Andy Thompson
4. Justin Green - based on what?
5. Choate -You've got to be kidding....

That leaves Thompson.

1. Why do you think Regents would never approve? What would regents hold against him? I know a bunch of the regents, several quite well. Met with one last week for several hours, just to shoot the breeze. Have worked with one for 35 years. I don't see anyone on the regents being a big problem. They all know how bad of a president Engstrom was, and how many bad decisions he made.

2. Don't agree on TG. If Stitt and coaches are gone, and Haslam goes, who would hold anything against him? He still has lots of supporters and friends at the top of Griz Nation.

4. Based on being a good coach with a lot of Griz history and contacts. Recruiting.

5. Why? I think Choate would be terrific if Stitt were not here.

We're going to fire a coach who's 19-13 and hire one who's had even LESS success at this level?

Can’t really phase your offense in I don’t think. It’s an all or nothing thing, in that you need to see who fits.. But I hear ya.

Pflu was strongly trending upwards imo. Shitty deal.
