SUU: Chip on Shoulder?

Still makes me laugh how several of you actually think Southern Utah didn't play anyone last season. They didn't play us, which depending on who was our QB at the time we could very well have lost. Not to mention the fact that they beat two teams we lost to (Weber State and Cal Poly) and only lost to Portland State because they went for two on the last play of the game. They didn't play EWU who was a joke last season, especially on defense and SUU would have probably beaten them even with their bland offense, Idaho State? Would have walked all over the Bangles, remember the team that we should have lost him if not for a fluke play? And they didn't play North Dakota who was so Jekyll and Hyde last season the advantage still lies with the T-Birds who played much more consistent over the course of the season. Time to give credit where credit is due and to get off our high horses, they earned their Championship last season

This season however I do think that they are going to get lucky to even win 6-7 games with the schedule they have, however they do return a lot of starters and they could very well surprise everyone yet again. Happy to see that other teams in the conference along with SUU like Weber State and Northern Colorado are improving, makes the conference better as a whole.

So... you must not be familiar with how this place works?

This year North Dakota gets the cream puff schedule...
Actually, the way I figured it, North Dakota has the second-easiest conference schedule. It’s Portland State that has the real cream puff conference schedule. It’s true, they do have two FBS opponents (back-to-back, early), but that could actually help them if they can avoid getting blown out.

Check out my numbers on the “Dodging Bullets” thread that I just bumped. Mainly, they do not play the Griz, NAU, or MSU (the “traditionally” strongest teams). But they get to feast on UC-Davis, Weber, Northern Colo, Idaho State and Sac State (traditional weak sisters.) But maybe the best part for PSU is the fact that they get their toughest opponents -- EWU and Cal Poly -- at home.

North Dakota does all right, of course. They manage to avoid the Griz and EWU … and they get NAU at home. Conversely, they get to tackle weak sisters Weber State, Northern Colo, Idaho State, and Sac State. They do go on the road for MSU, but that may be no big deal with a new staff there and all.

Super fair big sky conference! Great job, people! Maybe UM will get the cupcake schedule someday. Oh, no, that's impossible because we play the two other strongest programs every year.

We don't play NAU every year, just EWU.

They were the worst conference champ ever...

Lame schedule set up by a lame conference...

Think what you want man all that is showing is a lack of an educated opinion, wonder what that says about us that we can't win in a lame conference...

What? This place is a pillar of objectivity, fairness, sportsmanship and mutual respect. No high horse riding over here.....

The Big Sky deserved having, arguably, the 4th or 5th best team in the league win the regular-season championship. It's probably gonna happen again. With so-many teams, there will always be a borderline-line team with a generous schedule that doesn't play the top 2 other teams in the league and luck into a great conference record. Nobody saw this coming?

All this crap about how SUU didn't deserve the title last year is complete bull.

Just because they didn't play the Best teams in the Sky last year? Out of the top 5 teams last year (Including them) they played two of them (PSU,NAU) and didn't play 2 of them (UM,UND).

But they didn't play Eastern.......Eastern Washington finished 6-5 and 5-3 in the conference and had the 12th ranked defense in the conference. FYI that's 2nd to LAST! Hell if it wasn't for Eastern's dangerous offense they would have been complete garbage last year.

SUU almost won in Logan, beat NAU, lost on a failed 2 point try in Portland. They destroyed both Weber and Cal Poly (two teams the Griz lost to) beat the Bobcats in Bozeman and lost by three on the road in the first round of the playoffs at SHSU not getting the luxury of getting a first round home game.

As a Weber fan it bother's the hell out of me when I have to defend SUU, but they deserved everything they got last year. SUU IS the reigning Big Sky Champs and no butt hurt fans can say otherwise.

A round-robin schedule would solve this problem like it used to. But with a 13-team conference, it's impossible. The current format sucks. Hope the conference splits in some way once Idaho rejoins.
