less than a month before the start of basketball practise, and i see from the roster at montanagrizzlies.com that hasquet, elgin-taylor and sharp have all been granted an extra year of eligibility, while moikobu and hurley never did leave the program, as rumored months ago. sadly, i guess hutchison, cherry and young never did show up. rats. i had high hopes for cherry and young.

This program really does thrive on lack of excitement and energy. I think we have 4 coaches and a couple staff people devoted to the basketball program full time. Sometimes wonder what they do all year. If they aren't interested in telling fans about their program how can they expect fans to take an interest.

On another note, the very successful Griz Roundball Auction (Thurs. night) and golf tourney (Friday) are on the platter. The team will likely be at both events, be introduced by Tinkle and represent themselves as gentleman this weekend.

Of course, both events designed to take money from fans so they can pay for staff and recruiting. The staff must have way too much going on between March and September to deal with such trivial things like letting supporters know who they've recruited.

well, let's see, you have fourteen players on your roster. three graduate. two leave. three enter. that's eight changes since march. march, april, may, june, july, august, september--that's seven months, eight changes. let's round off--one change a month.

that's asking a lot. apparently.

or maybe they're just waiting on the bobcats. in this furious exciting rivalry, they haven't updated their roster either.

ah, but the women have, at both schools. i guess women are just better at housekeeping.

a game: what's the over/under on the days before they update the roster? i say thirty. i predict we'll have a brand new roster by the start of practise, october 15.

It would be nice if that section of montanagrizzlies.com was kept updated.. I can see them not putting new recruits up there (before it can be officially announced that is), but we are way past that point for Cherry, Young, and Hutchison...

It is neat seeing the "Griz in the Pros" section on the site at least. That's one thing I'd always wished either the Missoulian or the U of M would keep track of and have somewhere available. I do see at least one name missing from the list though (Dominique Davis). I'm sure there are a few more too, but it's definitely a good start. I hope that PDF gets more information in it eventually, like where they played, etc.

If it makes you feel any better the Bobcat basketball site is exactly the same. The problem is that the minute football starts in August every thing else on the men's side at both school cease to exist. Think about it, if someone was to go onto the site and spend the time to change the roster, that is 10 minutes of time that some lowly athletic staff member is waiting when they could be doing something on football.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Bobcat Football Roster has no updated pictures or bios either. Waiting for rodeo?

Could not tell you that, I have not looked. I do know that the Bobcats are about to unveil a brand new website so i suppose their excuse will be they are waiting for that. That said the women's basketball teams, for both schools have found the time to keep their site current.

no, mslacat, it does not make me feel better that the bobcats are behind as well. i grew up on that intense basketball rivalry between the schools, where each program pushed the other, and both programs featured larger-than-life talents--micheal ray, krysko, and that phenomonal leaper and dunker, kral ferch. watching the griz take on u.c.l.a. or ferch dunk on st. john's, that was the stuff of the once great basketball tradition that existed in montana. i fully understand, dave dickinson and travis lulay became the super-heros, and football knocked off basketball at both schools, and so be it, i enjoy the football tradition at least as much as the old basketball tradition.

still, it would be great if both schools could revive their basketball programs--especially from a revenue standpoint, as both a.d.'s well know. all the more baffling then why two schools in the small gesture of not updating their rosters would shun the ones who could "bring 'em"--we fans. should i say, "the base."

the devil is in the details.

Dominique Davis from the Wagner's Home Furnishings Moving Team? I wasn't aware that he played anywhere after college.

ah, dominique davis. part of the blaine taylor recriting class that totally bombed, after which the griz bb progam headed out on highway 93--south. it was davis, carter (the seven footer from oregon) and a 6'5" kid out of las vegas. but carter and the vegas kid washed out of the program entirely, and davis's talents never matched his dominique wilkins physique. what seemed like a great class turned out to be a total bust.

remember how skinny davis was when he came in? he was a stick and then he gained too much weight to be real effective. he had quite a few blocks if i remember though.
