One former and one current Griz have lost everything to the Maui fires. There’s a good article and the links to their gofundme pages if anyone is interested.

Just seems odd to #gofundme to people who lived on one of the most expensive places on the planet, and able to insure themselves against calamities like this.
Isn't #gofundme more appropriate for the middle/lower class family with a child recently diagnosed with cancer, or badly injured in an auto wreck by a drunk MSdUi coach.
Check out the cost of living on that rock, pre-fire. Not unlike the West Wind fire that nearly wiped Denton, MT off the map a couple years ago. Both tragic. I couldn't afford a Hawaiian vacation ONCE in my lifetime, let alone do it in style. Maybe a vacation in Denton. Hmm. Just sayin'.

If you’d ever been there you’d realize the Hawaii you see on the post cards is a veneer…peel it back and you see that much of the island population lives in near abject poverty (due to the high cost of living). Most people have multiple jobs, but they do it because either a) they’re from there or b) they are willing to sacrifice to live in perceived “paradise” with (usually) perfect weather. It in no way means they’re all “rich”.

I've addressed the 'never been there' retort. Google says it's typical for the working class, like me, to have 2-3 jobs to afford the cost of living there. It's those people I feel sorry for. But to put them all under a catchall #gofundme is ridiculous.

Who has put them all under a catchall GoFundMe?

Yep. The wealth disparity is kind of jarring in some places on the island. I was up on Mt. Haleakala last year for instance and saw multimillion dollar homes right next door to folks who literally had a shack on their property and looked to be living in poverty. Lahaina was definitely full of middle class folks, who lived right next door to very wealthy folks.
