The Utah Blaze announced the resignation of head coach/GM Danny White today. I first heard it during the CLE-ORL playoff game on ESPN2 tonight. The Blaze website verified it.
From the tone of the article, it sounds like this resignation caught the team by surprise. Sure, the first few years of the franchise have been a struggle, culminating in an 0-9 start this year, but the Blaze made the playoffs each year, including a furious push this year to clinch the 4 seed in the American Conference after said 0-9 start (starting QB Joe Germaine missed part of the season with an injury).
The Hall-of-Famer claimed the need for a break after this season in particular. I can understand that, but I'm wondering if there's something else in the works. The three straight one-and-outs in the playoffs MAY have factored into the decision, but certainly I don't think that the resignation was ASKED for.
Is White next in line at Arizona State? How about Dallas? He's way too young to be done. A sabbatical perhaps, but he just CAN'T be done yet.
