Sunday Games

I attended UM in the early 80's and don't remember Sunday afternoon games.

Are these well attended? Doesn't seem like the same excitement level would be there compared to a Saturday night showdown.

Seems like we have them often. Anyone know the reasons?

Altitude TV. Why Altitude would want games on right in the middle of two extremely important NFL games I have no idea.

Are they well attended? Nope. Aside from the Altitude TV reason, I don't understand why they are scheduled. The atmosphere is generally dead. I don't like them and wish the Athletic Dept. would see the light on this. Weber State on a Saturday night would draw a good crowd. Now, free tickets have to be offered in order to prop up attendance. :twocents:

I agree Gwhiz, Let's call it what it is, a total cluster fuck. If this is UM Athletics idea of smart marketing/planning then they need a remedial course. On the other hand it could be brilliant. The way the Griz have played of late, I would want as few people viewing as possible. Some sarcasm there, but not a great deal. :twocents:

I believe the conference schedules are dictated by the conference, and the schools have very little say in the matter. Thus, I would imagine that UM officials have the same feelings about as Sunday afternoon game as everyone else.

That might make more sense. I am sure Fullerton is this stupid.

No arguement here.

Plus I think the BSC benefits ($$$$) from television games more than the individual schools.

I think it was moved to accomodate Altitude TV, as well as the Brad Paisley concert in the fieldhouse.

Altitude Sports TV and Big Sky Conference agreement. Big Sky is doing a Game of the week each week on sunday shown on Altitude. Montana is only in 1 of them. Weber State is in at least two. So, blame the conference and TV for this. Can't blame UM for it this time.

But you can blame UM for scheduling a game like MT tech on a sunday afternoon last december. There you have a bad time and also a non-division 1 game.

Montana is in three of them, all afternoon games.

Oops, Should have checked the road games. Those are the only ones I care about being televised.

thanks Cat. good info. I don't mind a sunday game or 2. good national exposure and big conferences also play sunday games. It's only bad for the students who are less likely to drink before a sunday afternoon game than they would if it were 7pm on Friday or Saturday.

That is some nice scheduling for maximum ratings there, I'm kind of surprised they didn't slot Montana in for the Feb 17th game too against the Daytona 500. Bet that Sunday game in Cheney will make the conference proud on national TV - what do ya think, 250 people for that game?

Yeah that Superbowl Sunday game against EWU is just silly. I'm really glad Fullerton takes it up the ass for Altitude.... It's a great thing for ISU and Weber to get all those games televised.

fullerton is actually doing what is best for the conference... with the caliber of BSC hoops lately, the conference should be considered lucky to get any TV time/money at all. Altitude, btw, is not national, it is regional through the rocky mountain states.

The only way to get it across the country is to shell out big bucks for the *every cable sports network known to man* package on satellite... and if you have that... you sure as hell are not watching altitude. At least I hope not.

I imagine Sunday's debacle against Weber would have been better attended with school in session and better temperatures...

I don't believe the Big Sky receives any money from Altitude. The league gives the games to Altitude in return for the exposure. In a response to a question from an ISU fan on the "ask the commissioner" feature on the Big Sky web site, Fullerton said schools were asked if they had a problem with Sunday broadcasts. Weber said they did not want them, and they are not hosting any Sunday games. ISU was okay with it, and has three games. I'm assuming Montana was given the same option, but perhaps not, because they do not have the "LDS situation" to deal with.

The Super Bowl Sunday game is scheduled for 2 p.m. MT, which means it will likely be over, or very close, by the time the Super Bowl kicks off at 4 p.m. Not that many folks will be watching....
