Summer workouts

The guys were outdoors in the hot sun doing PT drills at the sandlot volleyball court yesterday afternoon about three o'clock. 92 degrees, whew. They're hitting it hard.

Unfortunately, as we passed, the spectacle of many tall, strong, sweaty, shirtless young men was too much for my significant other, and overcome with admiration she let out a wolf-whistle, which turned some heads and got some smiles.

I looked at her and said, "well, that was embarrassing."

"And where did you learn to whistle like that?"

They've played a lot of pick up since the beginning of last week, but it's not at consistent times. Especially with the coaching staff spread around the country at various AAU tournaments

Just a small excerpt from an interview I had with Fab regarding his body change this summer. He said he's dropped 15 pounds and is far more athletic and lean than he has ever been.

"I’ve been noticing it a little bit. We did vertical testing every week of the summer. I’m always one of the lowest verticals on the team. I’m usually around 26, sometimes 25, rarely get 27s, but last week -- I think it was Thursday -- I was above 29 for all my jumps. Moving around is a lot easier on the court."

This story will run Sunday, and I think I'm going to follow it up with a broader story about how the team has changed its fitness, diet and recovery methods to prepare for the up-tempo style it will play this season.

Just from walking past workouts a few times, I thought I was seeing more "athleticism" from Fab. DeJong too. Looking forward to the article.
