Summer Workouts Begin

Summer workouts began this week. Almost 60 players in town already. Lifting 3 days a week. Conditioning. 7 on 7 drills getting organized. Team meeting was Monday. Featherston passed down the no. 37 jersey a bit earlier than usual, to jump start the summer.

Are the incoming freshmen allowed to show up for summer workouts? Or do NCAA/school regulations require that they wait until fall practice begins?

Edit -- I think an athlete has to be enrolled at the university before he/she can participate in any sort of practice activity, but I also believe that the summer workouts are voluntary and are not considered practices to comply with the NCAA practice guidelines. Occasionally, you read about a recruit who finishes high school in December and then enrolls for spring and is eligible for spring practice.

JJ is in town. I'm pretty sure that incoming frosh can do summer workouts, although usually they don't.

The preferred walkons and scholarship guys can, the "true walkons" have to wait until they are enrolled to participate is summer strength training which is regulated by the NCAA. Summer practices are completely voluntary and run by the players so anybody could participate.
