Suck State is an FCS powerhouse

Be interesting to see what documents could come out during a trial, especially if they didn’t actually have the backing they claimed. What if it turns out to be a big attempt at defrauding local businesses in the Sacramento area under false pretenses?
Just that article yesterday from the local paper makes it seem that way. The fact that they had no documents at all for a stadium project when asked about it. All hat no cattle.

For anyone bored enough this weekend, I didn't realize Dr. Wood of Sac State did a Reddit AMA and then deleted it (lol). You can still read it if you click the link above. It never actually goes away, even if he wants it to, lol.

Some real gems in there from him including "But most people don’t know, is that I was adamantly against athletics until five years ago. I was the faculty member who would say that athletics has no place in the university. I was vocal in this position. But then something changed,"

Admitting ignorance like that while being such a vocal instigator in athletic conversations is certainly one pathway to take.

"I see myself not as a president, but as a teacher, as a researcher, as a scholar." Which is obviously how he carries himself on Twitter.

"It’s a very fair question. I’m trying to generate revenue so we don’t have to continue taking cuts each year. Historically, the practice for Sacramento state is just to reduce the budget across-the-board each year. The campus has done that for years. It’s not working. It reduces course offerings for students. It reduces the quality of services that are provided to students. And it simply is not the right approach. So we have to generate revenue, streams, and one of the few levers that we have to pull to do that is athletics. " Wild take when so few athletic departments operate in the black (almost none, in percentage terms). Seems like spending money to lose more money.

Its worth the full read.

Edit for one more gem before I log off for the weekend -- "I’m trying to make Sacramento State the Ohio State of the West..... I don’t want the bad that comes with Ohio State, just a good."

So his answer is no longer strive for better production through efficiency, but simply throw more money at a problem. Governor Moombean III will likely see that he gets his way.

I may be wrong, but after a quick look at the playoffs since 2015, Sac State has reached the quarterfinals once and the second round of the playoffs twice in 10 years. I don’t believe that meets the definition of a “powerhouse”.
Well, they did lose seven of their last games last year, didn't they? Besides, the last time they played Northern Colorado, in 2023, Suc State won, didn't they? And, and, wasn't Northern Colorado's very, very first BSC game won wasn't it against the MSU puttydats? Sure, Northern Colorado went 1 - 11 that year (2007 ( but THEY did beat MSU, didn't they?)

That ought to count for something, don't it?

And if you beat Northern Colorado, sometime or another, that counts as a powerhouse then, don't it?

Worth the watch. Somebody did just a little bit of digging around on the internet and found some funny coincidences with the accounts created around the sac12 initiative as well as some of those factors working against Sac State in this situation. I’ll forgive the guy for being a Vandal this time.
Despite this guy taking some jabs, everything he said is absolutely right. They're misleading everybody in the public eye about their situation. The most telling aspect of this was that article a couple weeks ago where they reached out to Sac State about the stadium plan and they couldn't produce anything. It's all smoke and mirrors and FBS conferences and admins are sniffing them out.

I was immediately skeptical hearing 500 million for a stadium. Pretty decent summation of the whole fiasco, seems they now give PhD's in con artistry.

They are no powerhouse for sure. I believe this is all part of their continuing effort to move to FBS, and that's all it is. Typical California response, go hire and attorney, after being dismissed.
Just because the new PAC8 1/2 gave them a wink late one night. Suddenly they began to brag they are the #20 TV market in the country and lobby to get into what they have a mind to believe is going to be a power conference, but they didn't look at the history to see it takes to get into that, if you can crack into that level at all. Connecticut thinks they should fit in because of basketball, but no one wants their football team in a power conference, and that is probably why Sac State thought they should just land Independent so they can sit and wait, but do they have more than one Big Sky women's basketball title in anything? At this point, I would wonder if the SBC, AAC or CUSA would even want them, but that is where they need to start like everyone else.
I don't think they can see how the NCAA probably saved them from real harm, but now they have a four-star wide receiver that is committing, for now, and they are a powerhouse. They are just on their own perceived power trip and they will come back to earth.

Tell me you are following Trump's playbook without telling me you are EXACTLY following Trump's playbook.

Edited: I don't say whether this is a positive or negative, you do.

1-7 conf record last year. Their only powerhouse years were the three Taylor years. Overall, they were more a BSC doormat than a powerhouse. Their 28 years in the BSC produced an overall conf record of 91-126, averaging 3.25 conf wins per season. 6 winning seasons in 28. Facts are stubborn things.
And Taylor couldn’t win much in playoffs. They were a big disappointment.
