Stupid Twitter Takes Re: Skattebo & the NFL

He reminds me of David Montgomery. The comparisons to other white running backs are so old. He’s nothing like Alstott or McCaffery

Wait. Didn't he quit on his SAC teammates by entering the portal for personal gain? What am I missing?
Yep. Add him to the long list of kids who quit for no apparent reason. Completely unrealated - another company approached me last week offering life changing money. Told that altruistic prick to take a leap - I ain't no quitter.

No.... the company didn't.

Damn right! Good for you, man! At least some people still know the meaning of commitment. Many likely wish we had more players like you (totally subjective and based on nothing at all, of course).

Did he commit for this year?
There are no employment contracts with colleges.

I thought this country was built on self-interested capitalism. Everyone for themselves.

All for one and one for all sounds like socialism. Collective good for the whole type of thing.

This is either uninformed or disingenuous.

Cam entered the portal once HC Troy Taylor left the program for Stanford. Early word at that time was he wanted to follow Taylor to Stanford, but either didn’t qualify or encountered some other challenge preventing him from transferring there.

He then chose ASU due to an assistant coach to whom he had a connection.

While we Sac State fans certainly weren’t thrilled he decided to leave after 3 years and 2 seasons, it isn’t at all uncommon for players to transfer elsewhere during a coaching regime change.

How exactly is that “quitting on his SAC teammates”? He also wasn’t the only player that left as a result of that coaching change. Word from those that know him was that he would have stayed at SAC had Taylor not left, as his loyalty to his coaches ran that deep.

Regardless, things have worked out quite well for him as a result. While he likely would have continued to be player of the year material had he stayed in the Big Sky and still been valued by NFL scouts, he certainly upped his draft stock by playing a big part on the CFP stage he couldn’t have been a part of playing in the Big Sky.

IDK how anyone can blame the kid for that.

Everyone knows reasons for leaving don’t matter unless I know the parents or he’s a good Montana kid or something. Otherwise, any stated reason for leaving is a lie and the player is a quitter. That’s the only logical conclusion at which one can arrive after reading eGriz. If you think there could be another explanation, I’m all ears.

Edit: Oh, and the kid has to be a hard worker and humble. Those of us folks with Montana ties are the most humble people in the universe. Nobody is even close to being as humble. This is a State of welcoming, so people with other states of origin can get the fuck out.

I think Skattebo can play well at the next level. But he takes so many hits to the head— I don’t think he lasts health wise.

I could definitely see him going in the first round (although I could also see him dropping into the 2nd or 3rd), and I'm sure he will be able to produce, but RB is just not a premium position in the NFL anymore. There are only like 2 or 3 in the entire NFL that are worth their 1st round draft status and produce at elite levels year over year. The rest only seem to produce 1 or 2 seasons of elite production at most before dropping off and being essentially replaceable. I could see Cam having an elite season or two, but I'm not sure he is as an elite talent that will get a huge 2nd contract or have more than 1 or 2 good years.

Super fun to watch, though. Those potential couple great seasons will be entertaining, for sure.
