I don't know how to say this and not sound racist or predjudist (sp) or whatever so I am just going to say it and please don't take it the wrong way.

Is it me or are there a ton of people from outside the States in this draft. I don't follow NBA closely, maybe 3-5 games a year but I usually pay attention to the draft to see if anyone from the Big Sky gets in. It just seems that everybody wants to play in the NBA, which is understandable. SO here is my question. Say a guy from Italy comes and makes the draft and is on a NBA team for a couple of years, living in America, paying taxes, living the life what have you, then the olympics come up. He runs back to his country faster than a bullet out of a gun to play for them.

My point being, and maybe it is wrong, but if someone is living in America, working, paying taxes, isn't he an American? I guess not.

I guess they could just get a work visa maybe? Would that let them work in America, play basketball, and still not have to become citizens?

I didn't mean to Hijack the thread about Stuckey. I hope he gets drafted and does very well in the NBA.

Living and working in the US in no way makes one a citizen. These guys couldn't play for the US in, for instance, the Olympics, if they wanted to do so. You have to be a US citizen, and, with perhaps some odd exceptions, none of the foreign players in the NBA are US citizens.

There is no doubt Stuckey is a great basketball player and has a chance to play in the NBA. Watching the game last night I could see how the Eagles could be better off without him. Rodney scored their first 7 points of the game and then had foul trouble and sat at the 12 minute mark for much of the 1st half. EWU could have easily folded but they found a way to get back into the ball game without their star. Kudos to Montana mainly Douhly and Mayes on their defense of Stuckey, he was out of sink the whole night. With him in the game you saw the eagles look to him the whole time, not uncommon when you have a talent like he is but stick with what was working for you.

Congrats to the Griz on a great ball game. They got themselves back in the Big Sky race.

There are millions of immigrants in this country that wished that your assumption was correct and that U.S. citizenship was really that easy.

How is Stuckey on the defensive side of the ball? I've seen him play twice on TV, but frankly, I was paying more attention to his ball handling skills and offensive talents.

I have seen him play 6 times, he doesn't go hard on D all the time. In fact, he takes some plays off. He can defend if he wants to. In the NBA it all depends where he ends up. Some teams just try to outscore the opponent. :twocents:

I agree. He definately doesn't go 100% on defense. With the mindset of the NBA these days, I'm not sure if that's a bad thing for his draft status. Also, I'd like to see his three ball % from NBA range. Nothing against him, but those items do stand out in my mind.

On a side note... I was at the PSU/EWU game earlier this year. Struck up a conversation with a very nice EWU couple about Stuckey. The guy (an older gentleman, not sure if this is even important) was saying that Stuckey was most proud this year about his GPA, rather than his play on the court. It's known that bigger schools had some issues with grade issues with him and that's sort of why he ended up at EWU. They also had cited instances where Stuckey came up and thanked folks for coming out and supporting EWU basketball after the games. We ended up losing the game and I kind of had a rather sour feeling when leaving the Stott Center, but the stories from these EWU folks made my night.

I hope Stuckey does really well in the NBA...

i remember one big sky coach saying(cant remember which one) that there are always at least one or two scouts at his games. i remember watching him during the big sky tourney last year and he was ridiculous. Will he stay in school all four years or leave early?

I'd be willing to bet he plays better D than Adam "the matador" Morrison.

I've wondered the same thing, but I have to think he'd bolt. There's no way his staying on leads to too much at EWU.

Now, if he played somewhere where a possible NC was on the line, maybe...
