Strictly Hypothetical

Delaney has absolutely zero reason to be the HC of this team, period. He should have had the balls at the end of this season to do the right thing and quit. Haslem should have done that for him if he was to ignorant to do it himself.
BTW, I have nothing against him as a person, just as a Head Football Coach.

Thanks for sayin' that, stubbins! :thumb:

Pols doesn't hear that kinda' stuff very often...

Delaney will coach until he chooses to retire.

Then there will be a nationwide search, after which

UM will announce that the best possible replacement was at UM the entire time.

Regardless of how Delaney does this year, we will be doing the program a huge disservice by keeping him on. There is a reason he was a career assistant, let's not fool ourselves. This team has enough talent to win plenty of games in spite of the coaching, but if we want the program to return to the trajectory it had going under Pflugrad, we need new blood.

+1

I'm surprised nobody has posted this before or made a big deal of it. I believe it was KPAX that interviewed Delaney on approximately the Monday before the new football recruits were announced. There was a question about how he sells the kids on the program and Delaney mentioned that he told them he was hopeful to be renewed assuming the program returns to success this year. I thought Delaney was a done deal after this season and I remember thinking this was a big piece of news.
I could have sworn that Derek Beurkle (sp?) on kpax interviewed Mick the night before signing day. Derek asked what he was telling recruits about the coaching situation. Mick basically said it wouldnt be him but that it would be someone who blah blah yada yada. The only reason I watched the piece since it was the night before signing day and he cant talk about recruits which he did not do.

The Griz will do well this year, pflu did crappy his first year too. The road to the big sky championship will be decided by cat griz

I just checked my DVR and I actually did tape the news that night because they were doing a special assignment on UM's athletic department and what changes have taken place since Pflu and O'day were fired. It was on Monday, February 4th. My memory was mostly correct, except it was Derek Buerkle's commentary leading into an interview with Mick on recruiting where Derek stated, "Delaney is entering the last year of a two-year contract and he feels if the Griz turn in a strong 2013 he'll get a chance to come back for another season." Then in the course of the interview Delaney goes on to explain that no matter what, the future coach of the Grizzlies will be a great coach, etc. - since 1985 there hasn't been a bad Griz football coach.

I'm one of the FEW who leaves armchair coaching alone Teton. I have never coached football nor presume I can. So I stay away from that. I'll say this, at this level I consider continuity good! But, I guess will find out in 9 months

What if the Griz go 7-5....will you support him a third year?.....or want a change?

Couldn't have said it better myself. I witnessed Haslam telling someone after the season that the Athletic Dept. actually considered the season a success given the circumstances. An statement like that doesn't exactly inspire confidence that the powers-that-be have their heads on straight as last season was about as far from acceptable as can be, no matter the circumstance.

I think that the powers that be have changed agendas from the general fan base at this point. i believe the agenda is, no more off the field trouble first, players graduating, high team gpa second, then wins. sorry, but from where i'm sitting, that's how it looks. I'm sure they are hoping no. 3 can still be achieved with the first two, but i think in 2012 and probably 2013, the win column took a back burner for the admin above the coaching staff

You don't think that the great recruiting class (on paper) that MD hauled in this year will reward the 'ol coach a chance with another year in 2014 and a chance to see "HIS" team make a deep run to the NC?

Never waste a crisis, as the saying goes, from great Chicago politicians, is exactly what Delaney has done, waited a life time of coaching at a level where he was productive and respected, however never receiving the helm.

Delaney will not leave the helm of the Griz until force to, which more than likely will be the end of a mediocre 2013 season.

At that point in time, it may be more difficult to acquire the type of coach that the fans hope for due to the cloud that still may cover Griz football, two years, of mediocre football, a pending NCAA investigation that may not just go away, the handling of the head coach and AD by the president of the university, all may lead to the talented coach to look elsewhere, or perhaps hiring from within from a staff that may not produce someone to be offered the head job.

Looks like, if Delaney can keep athletes out of the newspaper, better than he did the first year, he may be in line for another three years.

All good things usually come to an end, and the this end can be contributed to Royce Engstrom.
