The PSU Punter after a TD (Instead of kicking off), Punted the ball out of bounds at the Idaho 3 and the BS officials placed the ball on the PSU 45...

How can that be correct?

You serious?

Whether it’s a traditional kick off or a punt, kicking after a TD is still called a “kick off” and you can’t kick it out of bounds. Otherwise you’d see everybody try to punt it out of bounds. So kicking it out of bounds following a TD is a penalty, no matter how you kick it.

I Agree but why would you place it on the PSU 45??? Instead of the Idaho 35?

You know what, pretty sure I was wrong! I don’t think you can punt it as a kickoff unless it’s after a safety. Probably had a penalty for kicking it out of bounds and for trying a free kick, would be my best guess. Unless it was after a safety.

Yes was after a TD.... Weird

I think I saw a Dixie State kicker put his hands on the ball and “punt” it in an onside kick attempt. Is that different somehow? Thx in advance.

That was a drop kick. hit the ground first.

Thanks, Yukon. Didn’t catch that.

There were multiple penalties against PSU on the kickoff.

Agree. But other than Personal fouls (Which there were none), penalties don't add on to each other. The spotting could not be right.

BTW Idaho won by 7 and starting on the PSU 45, they drove right down and scored.

Took me a while but I think I've got it; however I haven't seen the play so I'm only guessing.

Portland St took an unsportsman-like penalty on the convert, that meant they kicked off from their 20.
They punted which is illegal and resulted in a five yard penalty.
The kick went out of bounds.
The penalty for a kick out of bounds is the receiving team gets the ball 30 yards from where it was kicked which in this case is the 50.
Add on the five yards for the illegal kick and it's Vandals ball at the PSU 45.

That could be... Didn't see the unsportsmanlike, but makes sense.

I went and watched this on espn+ a few minutes ago.

-after extra point, personal foul on kicking team.
-ball placed at 20 yard line for kick off.
-punted and went out of bounds at the 3.

From the ref:
-kick out of bounds, ball placed at 50.
-off sides, kicking team, declined. (kicker left from the 20 and kicked from the 25)
-illegal kicking (punt), declined.
-they then met again and enforced the illegal kick and put it at the 45.
