3rd time for Strait

Montana junior Andrew Strait and Weber State senior David Patten have been selected Co-Big Sky Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Strait, a 6-foot-8, 245-pound forward from Yakima, Wash., averaged 18 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, leading the Grizzlies to road victories over Northern Arizona and Northern Colorado.

Strait tied a Big Sky record by making all 11 of his field-goal attempts in a 74-71 win over Northern Arizona. Strait became just the sixth player in league history to make all of his field-goal attempts when attempting at least 11. Strait finished with 23 points, two rebounds and one steals. Strait added 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a block in a 68-51 win at Northern Colorado on Saturday, Jan. 27.

For the week, Strait shot 73.9 percent from the floor, and made 2-of-3 free throws. Strait leads the Big Sky in field-goal percentage at 64.2 percent. This is Strait’s third Player of the Week honor in his career.

Patten, a 6-8, 230-pound forward from Placentia, Calif., averaged 22 points and six rebounds per game, helping Weber State to a road victory over Idaho State, and a home win over Eastern Washington.

Patten scored 23 points with seven rebounds, an assist, and a block in Weber State’s 71-58 win over Idaho State in Pocatello, Idaho, on Jan. 25. It was Idaho State’s first home loss this season.


Patten scored 21 points with six rebounds, two steals and an assist in Weber State’s 94-83 home win over Eastern Washington on Jan. 27.


Patten shot 66.7 percent for the week, making 10-of-15 field goals against Idaho State and 8-of-12 against Eastern Washington.


This is Patten’s second Player of the Week honor this season.
