Stop stopping the clock

Another way to shorten up the game would be to just leave after the first quarter.

Some fans, including some North Enders, have learned to shorten the game by staying outside at the tailgates for part of the 3d quarter. The Griz could shorten games by eliminating fumbles. That causes too many change of possessions, and clock stoppages.

I’ll concede 6 hour baseball games and 100 pitchers is something I’m having a hard time getting used to...
That's why you record the game and use the fast forward. Getting used to that, I can't stand to watch in real time anymore.

The worst part of being at the football games are the TV time outs. And not just for the fans; they have an impact on the game. Momentum killers. I can handle the rest and have no interest in reducing the number of plays run.

Agreed on both counts. Especially teams that have a "fast paced" offensive philosophy which is designed to tire the other team out. All the extra TV timeouts really defeat that philosophy.

i agree with that. i'm a hoops junkie and love to get to the regionals when they're in salt lake or somewhere nearby. and the tv timeouts in addition to regular timeouts are just brutal. i don't notice it as much when i'm watching on tv as there are always about 4-5 other games going on. but when you're there live it's a real buzzkill.
Ditto here. My wife and I are TV football(college) junkies on every Saturday when we can manage it. We set up to record every game we're allowed (currently five on DirecTV) and then designate two others we're going to kinda watch. (With the Sports Pack there are plenty running at the same time to make that possible for much of the day.) When a game we really want to watch has gotten far enough ahead in the recording, we switch there and follow along ... buzzing thru commercials at warp speed. (And we can also freeze the show for beer or bathroom breaks :D ) Granted, you lose the "live action" aspect of the game, but ... it's on TV. How "live" is that, really?

With this approach, we never watch a commercial, except by accident. It also means that we end up with a backlog of recorded games in case we get bored some evening later in the week.

Addendum: In case you haven't figured it out ... this is why I can post that list of FCS game channels on DirecTV. I don't bother with FBS games because they are usually pretty easy to find. (BTW, about to revise that list with nine new channel listings. Edit: My bad, not all of the additions are FCS.)

You’re entitled to your opinion of course. In general, I hate that everyone is always trying to speed everything up. Everything needs to be instant. Instant gratification. Faster, faster, faster! That’s not my pace. If the game takes a long time, that’s just more beer and fun with family and friends!

Apparently you're not drinking the right stuff!
