You cant watch our games and think the OL is playing very well.
Even the OC schemes around the OL by rolling out the QB and calling pass plays in short yardage situations. It is pretty obvious to the naked eye

I've been impressed. Im looking for more consistency drive to drive, but overall body of work has been great. They absolutely knocked the piss out of idaho and the entire group sits right in front of our seats on griz bench. They were a fired up bunch that night. Others have been great too. Im encouraged by the young tackle, Colin Amick's progress, as well as the evolvement of their scheme to include more gap principles with counter and power scheme. Upward!

How do you know it's the OC calling the play and it's not an RPO play or an audible the QB is making at the line to check out of something else that's been called. Don't get me wrong, out OL isn't a dominant OL, but they have been consistently getting better each week. Sacks have been down, we have one of the highest scoring offense in the Big Sky and country. Even a blind man can see that if our OL wasn't playing well then none of the above would be possible.
You can't be chicken little if you think our o line play is adequate!! You are spot on Old school. O line has been playing well, Schaeffer and the TEs have been blocking well, and in turn we have a championship level offense. Dominant road graders maybe not, but effective and playing good football, I do believe so.

RPOs are not typically called on roll out plays. You can't change a play on the fly without adjusting the blocking scheme to match. If our QB is changing out of running plays on 3rd and short that needs to be corrected by the coaches. RPOS are hybrid plays that allow the QB to make a decision after the play has started. How would the OL know, hey our QB is going to roll out lets change our blocking scheme on the fly. When rolling out the OL has to execute pass blocking to protect the edge of the pocket as the QB moves
The coaching staff knows our OL isn't adept at run blocking so they are calling plays away from that on short yardage is my guess. The players look lost with the zone schemes they are supposed to be executing

Based on the film shown at qb cub, the o line is not lost in their zone scheme, and they are also running quite a bit of gap scheme counter /power.

They are better at gap scheme than zone and its very noticeable to anyone NOT at QB club. None of that information disproves the fact that you don't typically call and RPO on a roll out. IMO that is why the OC is passing on 3rd and short instead of running the ball like they should.

Just my opinion here, but we have the running back for a zone blocking scheme to work well and most of the time it doesn't. Most of the longer runs seem to come when the RB has a predefined hole/gap to run through, Gillman is patient most of the time allowing blocks to be made then exploding, running through tackles. On the majority of zone schemes it seems like it Eli vs the other 8 or 9 in the box. Its not in sync.
If you are calling zone run plays on 3rd you need to be replaced, this is not whats happening with Peace. He knows football.

The GFP made a good point, the fact those weird play calls have happened so often on 3rd/4th and short you'd have to think the coaches don't have confidence in the O-line in those situations. Its either that or Pease is hellbent on calling weird plays/being cute in those situations which I find much less likely.
I will say the O-Line has been playing better but they are still inconsistent when it comes to run blocking, pass blocking they've done very well the last few weeks.

Did they tell you how to tell if a play is a gap scheme or zone?
Real simple eye test for the majority of plays, if a lineman is pulling its almost always gap. If OL is moving in sync, play side its zone.

I watch every Ute game (as well as the Griz) and their running game is fun to watch and they use ALOT of Jet Sweeps to set up counter, QB Power, PA Pass etc. Someone else keeps harping it on here (name escapes me) but if we're routinely facing stacked boxes and I'm wondering if we started implementing that more it could help out the running game somewhat by forcing Defenses to defend laterally.
Lord knows we have the athletes (Monte Gillman, Wortham, Rocker etc.) and I like the idea of creating even more options to get those guys in space and more touches.
What's ironic and funny about the 4th down trick pitch option throw play people are mad about is that if Wortham just follows the right side blockers on the power sneak, he would've picked up the first down because both blockers drove their defenders way back.

Our offense rushed for 161 yards on 33 carries and avg 4.87 ypc. We gave up only 1 sack threw for 196 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT while also rushing for 4 TDs. We scored 49 points against a defense that held South Dakota St. to only 1 offensive TD. And yet you're on here complaining about the O line play like they aren't doing a pretty good job. Its pretty obvious that anyone who knows football knows the O line is doing a pretty good job.
