They have 2 young qb's.

Montana had one last year, so we see how much that matters.

Good point. But it's what Jensen thinks of the situation and competition and what "assurances" he gets from Stitt and the new head coach. As well as what other opportunities Jensen has.

I actually see they have 3 freshmen and a sophomore, 3 of the 4 were 3 stars coming out of high school, so even if Jensen doesn’t go it will be a big an battle. And big boys 6’2” plus. One frost is only 5’11”, I didn’t find his star rating. All Texas boys, so Stitt needs to learn from his experience here, and recruit home based recruits!

The stats show that a frosh and a soph played. Don't know if there was an injury.

I'm happy for coach Stitt. This team cannot get worse, so very little risk. Residual risk for coach Stitt is to be locked into perpetual mediocrity and obscurity in San Marcos. Appy State and Troy are dominant in their league, and I don't see that changing. Bowl game in the next couple or three years would be big.

New HC is young, but has experience recruiting Texas. They want to play the brand of football that suits Coach Stitt. Will be cheering for him.

Ditto. Hope BS tears it up down in Texas!

His offense didn't work at the FCS level and I highly doubt it will work at the FBS level. Defenses can figure out how to stop 1 formation and 10 plays pretty easy.

Congratulations and good luck.

Depends on whether they give him 7-9 years to get his players in place. 8-)

Yup. $300,000 with max bonus.

Does it seem like $300k is a lot of money for an assistant coach at a down-market fbs program? Also explains why it can be hard for FCS schools to hire head coaches.

I don't know what market rate is in FBS. Also, some of this is based on success bonuses, but don't know how much.

Seems like it's a pretty sweet gig. He could likely live in Austin and commute.

I know that the numbers have been tossed around, numerous times, but even though it is very expensive to move up, there is a lot of money to be had in FBS. A team like the Griz would thrive all things being equal, and would be much more likely to be Boise State-ish instead of Idaho-ish. I'm a move upper, and did my own research years ago about it, but this is not meant to be a move up thread hahaha.
Point is yes, there is a reason it's difficult to hire head coaches at this level. Just look at the women's soccer team and their second choice coach. Things worked out well, but the money wasn't there for the SEC assistant.

San Marcos is a cool little town. Way, WAY cheaper than Austin. It's become quite the little bedroom community, in fact.

And we'll be looking for a Travis Decuire replacement in all likelihood in the next 12-24 months.

Sadly, yes. Cue the people saying he loves Missoula and won't leave for 8 times the money . . .

His offense is being incorporated into the NFL now, and multiple FBS schools use parts of it. And our offense was one of the best in the Big Sky last year, you must have it confused with Hauck's this year.

Which was also one of the best in the big sky. #4 scoring and #4 total offense.

I'm not saying his offense was perfect, but I saw promise his last year, especially with Phillips before he went down. NCAA stats site shows that Griz offense was in top 10 his last 2 years. So that would seem to contradict your blanket statement that his offense doesn't work...

Was looking for an link to a actual announcement that Stitt was headed for Texas State ... and did not find it. Just second-hand statements that he "will be" hired.

But in the process, I found this item from early this year about Stitt's position at Okie State. It addresses why Stitt is so highly respected in the coaching fraternity, and what it is, exactly, that an "Offensive Analyst" does. Worth a read: https://www.cowboysrideforfree.com/...dy-spencer-sanders-cowboys-osu-pokes-football

One crucial point: An "analyst" does not count against the limit the NCAA places on the number of coaches a team can have on it's staff. He breaks down film, assesses player performance, etc., just like a coach, but he cannot coach players or (near as I can tell) even be on the practice field when other staff are coaching players. I suspect, but can't tell from the write-up, that he's not allowed to wear a head-set during live action in a game. (The NCAA is real picky about that too.)

Now could we just ban Stitt thread on eGriz in the future? He's moved on ... we should too.
