Should this be true about CC, hopefully Bob reaches into the back of QB's and brings out the one to move this "offense". If that means Willy then make it so. People might complain and say we are loosing a year of habit Willy. However if the Bob Stitt offense is as great as described then the Griz should be able to recruit a QB of the same or better talent than even Willy. It would seem a QB would want to play in his offense to showcase themselves.

Or Bob now sees this as a transition year and goes full patch work this year just to get by?
Was there an issue with the way Simis played?
Possibly you missed OT.

Clearly. Because it was Simis who missed those blocks on D-linemen that hit him. And it was just a stroke of luck that Schmaing, Reese, Luke, Todd and Dietrich found Roberts downfield on that throw that tied the game.

Not anointing him as the next coming of JJ, but what other choices are there @ this point? If the injury bug continues, it may well wind up Willy.

For a bunch that mocks Ash for throwing players under the bus you are sure willing to throw the Griz athletes under. Bunch of hypocrites.
What are you talking about. At the point of your post no individual player was trashed or thrown under the bus. There was some sarcasm about Simis later in the line of posts, but I again I don't see an individual player being thrown under the bus.

That was one play. Surely you aren't judging his overall performance on one play. I thought he played well for coming off the bench and he has more zip on his throws than Chalich does.

This is what Simis said about the play in OT. Note the last 2 paragraphs.

"The Griz, set up with the ball at the opponent 25-yard line, never got a chance to make Weber sweat. Blitzing linebacker Tre'von Johnson blasted the blind side of Makena Simis, Montana's third-string quarterback who was pressed into duty just before halftime.

The ball on the turf, Weber gobbled it up to put the Griz on life support.

"I have an option to hand that ball off," explained Simis, who played the entire second half for Chad Chalich, who himself has seen action in the past three games because of an injury to starter Brady Gustafson. "The guy I'm reading to hand the ball off, that's the guy that ended up hitting me.

"That's something I could have avoided. That's totally on me. I should've handed off."

From Sunday's Missoulian article on the game.

Its not shocking that the guy isn't up to game speed. You really can't think that fast. It has to be a reaction that is based on instinct and that instinct is developed by practice. Once he gets more reps and sees more situations the instinct will develop and the quality of his decisions will improve. It is nice to see him step up and assume his responsibility in the outcome. Hopefully someone else is stepping up to take on their part in missing the blitz pickup.

Simis seems to be the best overall QB to me. I'll take him over Gustafson and Chalich in a heart beat.

I probably over reacted calling posters hypocrites and comparing them with Ash throwing players under the bus. I just having a hard time seeing players that are working so hard and doing their best to win being criticized so harshly.
Go Griz

I don't disagree with your assessment of Simis's overall play, but it wasn't just ONE play; it was THE play. Game over. You cannot turn the ball over in OT. A fumble is not a necessary outcome of a sack. Inexperience exposed.

I like Simi's potential. I like how he throws the ball and runs. Nevertheless, I agree with Kem. Simis made 2 mistakes on the play. Not correctly reading the rush, and then handing off the ball. It looks to me like UM was not set up to block this blitzer, but was instead the qb was supposed to hand off to avoid him and have the back run through the hole the blitzer vacated. The second mistake was not tucking the ball when he was first hit. The second guy reached around and stripped the ball because Simis had not tucked the ball and his arm was still 18 or 24 inches from his body. Simis is young and inexperienced, and had never thrown a pass in college. I thought he looked quite good for a 3d teamer thrust into a game at halftime, given his lack of game experience. Things happen. I am not going to hammer him, nor did Kem. However, thems the facts, and I assume Simis would agree

To prevent quarterback injury, we should be using our best athletes on both sides of the line. Period.

Convert Tyrone Holmes and Caleb Kidder into offensive tackles. Give them a few extra breaks on defense, but they are more than capable of playing both sides of the ball (just like high school). After we have run up the score, they can take the fourth quarter off.

You went full retard. Never go full retard.

I was impressed with Simis and think that Stitt may have found the quarterback who can run his offense. Yes, he made some mistakes last week off the bench, but he throws a really nice ball and is a running threat. He'll make better decisions as he gets some experience. If he gets a good amount of playing time the rest of this year, he's got two more years to run this offense and could take it to a place that it hasn't been yet.

It is a mistake to dismiss Gus.

Mistake to dismiss any quarterback right now. The O-line play has relegated them and the running backs to tackling dummy's. Until that situation gets fixed, need em all.

No S@@t! Can't quite figure out how Gus gets the rap he does here. Is it a Billings West thing? Edwards and Selle never seemed to get the credit I felt they deserved in their careers. Do we feel a MT kid can't lead the Griz anymore? Gus goes out and many say Chalich is better anyway. Chalich goes out and suddenly Simis is the best of the three anyway. Chalich's late pick 6 late in the first half and Simis' fumble in OT were huge in the Weber game. Take away either one and we might not have spent the entire week talking about the FG attempts Stitt decided not to attempt.

My comment wasn't meant as a big smack on Gus, but he's still an unknown quantity too--- is he the one that showed up for NDSU or the one that showed up at Liberty ?? He can throw a great ball but his mobility is very much an issue, and with the serious injury it is highly possible that he won't see the field again this year. If he is able to come back and perform well, that's great as far as I am concerned. I do like Simis' skill level compared to Chalich though, and with additional eligibility, would like to see him get the playing time.
