Stitt interviewing today per Football Scoop

Do the Griz really need safe? TG and Hauck are safe. Delaney was a safe hire. It is time to think out of the box like Alpha suggests. The other issue is that 9 candidates are too many at this point...cut to the top prospects and go after your first choice with urgency. :thumb:

Just spoke to UM AD Haslam. Says despite rumors of hire, nothing new on Griz FB coach search.
"I do not forsee anything happening this week"

Gentlemen:
Nine candidates is not too many. Haslam is doing the right thing for UM by screening many good applicants which will remove the tainting of former hiring practices.

so we have known for how long we were going to need a coach and we are now just supposedly interviewing people...

This!

I have to disagree. We had a team fighting to make the playoffs. Other coaches were still coaching. I am sure there was conversations being had by phone and email, but formal interviews on campus are a whole different beast that needed to wait till the season was over for all involved.

In addition, on-campus interviews and visits are important, because they give the candidate an opportunity to meet more people and to be interviewed by more people; to be interviewed by the president (if the president will be involved in the decision, as is the case in this situation, I believe); to talk to various assistant coaches who may be kept on the staff; to ask about the status of recruiting; to allow the candidate (and perhaps his wfe) to see the town and perhaps get informaition on schools for kids; to get a feel from housing; etc. Anyone want to bet me whether Stitt's wife is here today?

Oh, WOE IS US! Woe be unto Griz Nation!
What a terrible stittuation we're in!

We have rumors of a well-respected offensive innovator, a successful OC with major college coaching experience, a former Griz HC who did almost nothing but win...

Woe is us!

:?

I bet most programs at our level would be thrilled to be in this position. I'm not saying UM should settle. I'm just saying perhaps it's time for those of us on the board, who have zero input on the decision, to step back and recognize the reality. And the reality is, we're going to get a great coach. And the program is going to be fine.

Go Griz!

Great post. I would like to say I am going to unplug for awhile to avoid the anxiety, but I don't think I can. I am going to try. Maybe I will get some work done for a change.

This.

If our choices are really down to Hauck, Pease or Stitt, it's a great compliment to our program. These are all great candidates.

I'd prefer Stitt or Pease, but I don't think we can go wrong with Bobby again.

I don't like it. Maybe as an OC somewhere. They do know coaching engineers, CSM of all places, will be a lot different...and recruiting? Has he ever had to recruit? I really don't like it. "But his offense." Please give me Hauck or Pease. Pease, as underling of Petersen is probably one of the most organized coaches around.

No, most college coaches don't have to recruit. Usually players just show up at the doorstep ready to play and learn.
Haha good luck with that. Is that why Wyoming sucks so bad? Makes sense.

Cool story, bro. Remember the scoreboard from August?
I swear this is the only team board where the main (most present?) mod shit talks said team

People do realize when you run offenses like this your D becomes a weak point and gets pushed around? It's tough to buck up against hard noise football when all off season and game week you're going against the spread.

Does it matter when you put up 70?

Why don't you ask Rob Ash about that

Hey, there is a category for this on Brinty awards :!:

So if Stitt is hired- he obviously can take care of the offense. Does TG stay on as DC ? I know AG1 and others think we can do better, but wouldn't you rather have Gregorak than anybody from Stitts staff? Where would we be looking for another DC? Just wondering.

Also. I think Green stays on - he has some recruiting acumen.

...
Saw an article not long back -- wish I could find it again to link it -- that expressed a very good point about O vs D for "lesser" football programs.

FCS programs, in particular, do not have the luxury of many (enough) top athletes to divy up between the two sides of the ball. That's where the HC really matters, and can change the "character" of a team. Do you assign that quick, athletic 185-pounder to be a Safety, or use him as a slot receiver? Should that nimble 290 guy play DE, or bulk up and be a "road grader" for the O line? EWU is an offensive powerhouse. Would they be better, overall, on D if some of those athletes played on the other side of the ball?

This may sound obvious, but making those kinds of decisions is what makes the difference between a good HC, and a great one. Obviously, he has to have assistants who can make the most of "bodies" assigned to them, but it all starts with those decisions.

For those acting like a D2 coach won't know who to go after in recruiting at Montana...there are certain things called All-State teams, All-Conference teams and State Championship teams...I believe said coach will be aware of these minor things. Not to mention scouting services that put these little shiny stars by players names (that show up to scouting camps)...the more shiny stars, the more highly regarded the player. FYI. Hope this helps. ;)
