Stitt and His Offense

Offense will never be the problem now....it’s only going to get better with these guys.

Defense is where Stitt might need to make some tough decisions and bring in some new faces.

I don't understand why so many half-step around this issue...

Do you guys really need to see more to have an informed opinion on those leading the defense? I don't. I think Stitt MUST make coaching changes on the defensive side of the ball.

If you believe the defense needs to be just above average to win a NC - do you believe that's what the Griz have or will have? I don't.

Playoffs are one and done. Do you think Semore can scheme and adjust in that environment? No do-overs on the route to NCs.

Perhaps I am premature...there's a bunch of football to be played this season. Maybe the Defense will shine?
They adjusted at halftime and largely shut down a pretty good ISU offense. Yes UND was decimated and didn't have much of a passing game, but they kept two of the best backs in the conference to minimal yardage. But then again there's a certain set here that will never be satisfied unless we win every game 63-0.

Winning every game 63-0 works. :)

Do you believe Semore and his LB coach will lead Griz on path to a NC?

I think I have seen improvement in the last 6 quarters. The bye is perfect timing this year, and we will really see how (if) the defense has improved the next two weeks. Is this a championship defense, no. Is it a stepping stone...let's hope so.

Possibly, but I'd also be open to coaching changes after this season if it's clear they need to be made. The key word being after.

Fair enough. I like Semore....his energy is contagious. I hope he rises to the coming challenges - consistently. His body of work thus far says otherwise IMO.

Here's my take on the Defense and the scheme by Semore. He likes to load the box and put a ton of pressure up front. We have great rushing defense, we have a ton of stops for loss and sacks. This puts a ton of pressure on the secondary. Much like Stitt on offense, Semore needs to have his type of guys to have his defense flourish. This includes him needing a very very good secondary. As we all know, CB is a very hard position to recruit at this level. If he had the personnel in the secondary to complete his scheme we would be a scary good defense. With that said... we have missed on some CB recruits I believe...

This is EXACTLY what he drew up for Offense production.

If the D is any where near average to above average then that is the recipe for a NC.

Agreed...slightly above average D gets us home.

This may be true, but seriously why not have a great defense and a stellar offense? The facilities are in place and there is plenty of tradition. Hell, why not dominate both sides of the ball with top notch talent. It can be done. Just look at NDSPoo
My thoughts exactly....we should be able to have our pie and eat it too.

Stitt needs to go find a rockstar DC that implements a scheme that can stop the run in the first half and the pass in the second. Let’s score 50+ and hold them under 20.

Now is the time to get that style of ball going.

Just my opinion but a slightly above average D probably keeps us home more than it gets us home. I see nothing wrong with striving for a good to great D.

What is your definition of a "rockstar" DC? We don't exactly have the budget to pay a rockstar.

We don’t have to beat our FBS schools on pay scale...that’s ridiculous. But look at NDSU, UNI (over the last few years), SUU.....we should have an upper-tier FCS defense every season. Money has nothing to do with the fact that our defense sucks.

Go find an FCS defensive coordinator that runs a dominant defense year in and year out and fits the culture that Stitt wants, and bring him on.

It doesn’t take rocket appliances to see this.
