Stitt and His Offense

My (admittedly limited) understanding of Stitt's offense is that it relies heavily on the quarterback's ability to see the field, read the defense, and take advantage of whatever the defense gives him. While we certainly need quality backs, great line play and talented receivers, I think Jensen's abilities are what make the biggest difference in the offense this season. We saw similar abilities with Phillips in terms of his rhythm and pace and accuracy, and now Jensen picks right up where Reese left off.

Does he make some freshman mistakes? Yes. But he shows an extraordinary ability to forget those mistakes right after he makes them.

Gresch and a few of his receivers will walk out of here after rewriting the UM individual record books over four years. If the team succeeds in reaching its collective goals as well, it's gonna be a helluva lot of fun.

BGs health was a issue about this time last year. I like how overall team health is getting better. With that said Strong will still be sporting a club and Sandry's ankle or leg injury probably won't be right this year. Team seems quite a bit more complete this year.
Ability to put points on the board should protect defense and force Weber, Northern Col., and MSU to throw more than they would like. NAU is solid with the run and better passing, Griz putting lot's of points on the board is our only hope against NAU.
GJs arm better be warmed up.

Strong (according to Amie Just) practiced or has been practicing without the club - so he should be back to playing with both hands sooner rather than later.

This is EXACTLY what he drew up for Offense production.

If the D is any where near average to above average then that is the recipe for a NC.

Shaun Rainey tweeted a picture of him without the club!

Nobody's arguing that Stitt hasn't brought in talent but what l'm concerned with can the coaching staff make the 'adjustments' to win the big games..we haven't seen this with this coaching staff yet..can they make the 'adjustments' on the fly??? ..this what make teams great!

Offense will never be the problem now....it’s only going to get better with these guys.

Defense is where Stitt might need to make some tough decisions and bring in some new faces.

Good to hear about Strong. Grizghost you bring up a valid issue. Time will tell if that is on the coaches or if the current players may be better at implementing adjustments.

I've seen more adjustments this year than I've seen in the past:

- wildcat with Simis at goal line (very successful)
- double tight ends to get the run game going
- A bootleg tight end drag against Idaho state for a touchdown ( first time I saw a bootleg or reverse of play with stitts offense)
- adjusted to the deep ball versus Idaho state after the first two drives and saw they were getting press coverage
- putting starters on the kickoff team
- having Semenza kick off

I'm more worried about adjustments on the defensive side. I know we've seen a few recently which have been effective but I want to see those in game adjustments when they're getting fried

For one reason or another, NAU often doesn’t play well in Missoula. Where they’re tough as nails at home, they always seem to play poorly in Missoula.

Yeah I was just thinking this. We tend to dominate NAU at home far more often than not. Although I think their balance on offense, their top notch QB, stout defense and desire to send their coach out on a high note might win out. I think the game will be very close and of course I hope we come out on top. What is our home record against them in the last oh I don't know, ten years or so? Anyone know?

Unless Mick is coaching and they have a RB named Bauman

..me too!..once you get into playoff mode a lot of gameplans go out the window...coaches need to react fast and quick and adjust...Stitt needs to evaluate the defense and see if Semore is the right guy..not sure if this team will get to playoffs but that will give us some idea where we need to be...I personally think Jensen will be really good when playoffs come...

Agreed...slightly above average D gets us home.

This may be true, but seriously why not have a great defense and a stellar offense? The facilities are in place and there is plenty of tradition. Hell, why not dominate both sides of the ball with top notch talent. It can be done. Just look at NDSPoo

Too much oxygen.

I hope Stitt's offense will be utilizing the middle of the field on a more consistent basis. That has been lacking, and really the only thing I haven't liked about the offensive design, strategy, etc. The times the GRIZ have utilized the middle of the field, they have been pretty successful. It is also refreshing to see a QB actually put some faith in WR's a little more often. Last season, that only happened against ISU. This season, it appears there is a lot more faith in the WR's.

I don't understand why so many half-step around this issue...

Do you guys really need to see more to have an informed opinion on those leading the defense? I don't. I think Stitt MUST make coaching changes on the defensive side of the ball.

If you believe the defense needs to be just above average to win a NC - do you believe that's what the Griz have or will have? I don't.

Playoffs are one and done. Do you think Semore can scheme and adjust in that environment? No do-overs on the route to NCs.

Perhaps I am premature...there's a bunch of football to be played this season. Maybe the Defense will shine?
