Well crap!!! 2016 will go down as a disappointment for all of us, those 17 seniors for sure as their season was cut short which Griz are not accustom to. I don't remember a more head scratching year than this one, the way we seemed to be world beaters one week to losing by one point the next. Loosing games that simply should not have been lost to putting up unreal numbers the next. Winning almost every game convincingly on the stat board but not the score board.
A common theme the second half of the season seemed to be simply coming out flat, no emotion, no excitement, no clue. Instead of getting better and building each week which you want to see, the team just kept going backwards. The Offense seemed to play good enough in most games to win but the D just could not stop anyone the second half of the season, for sure away from WGS.
It sounds cliche but there does not seem to be any "EYE OF THE TIGER" in the team or coaches, at least on the field.
I would concede that we are a fairly young team across the board and that will get better next year now that Stitt can go shopping for a full compliment of recruits with the NCAA sanctions over.
We can all see at times how this offensive system can score quick and often when its rolling and is fun to watch, but you better have an incredible D when it isn't.
I will give Bob Stitt and the current staff along with the current players support this coming season, as I think we all should, but he has to know it is a make or break year for him and this direction.
I don't put the current situation totally on Stitt. If you look at EWU, they have had the same staff for the most part since 2008. Since 2009 we are on our 4th HC, yes that is right 4th, Bobby, Robin, Mick and now Stitt, all with different schemes and philosophies on how to win. How could you expect any team to be consistent when you average 2+ years of players you did not recruit to play your system.
It will all come down to next season which has already started as I'm sure the staff are on the road visiting possible recruits. I don't think Stitt needs to be told he is on the hot seat,"which I just did" he knows, may not want to talk about it in public but he knows, Halsem knows too.
Lets all hope to see a great incoming class and build on what we can from this year to next
