Staudacher/ Elgin-Taylor

First and foremost, I want to congratulate a classy, athletic, and well coached Weber team that beat the grizzlies on our court last night. PSU should take "class" notes from Weber. Weber just did thier thing.

Back to Topic. I have attended a large portion of games over the past years, and I have seen Staudacher play/start quite a few games. It seems, to me, that when a defense has a game plan to blanket Staudacher he is consistently ineffective. Hence Weber State last night. I know they played great defense, and Stauds obviously off, but if Staudacher doesnt score he is just another body out there. Stauds- 24 min, 1 point (0-6 fg's) 2 rebs, 0 assists, ? on turnovers. Once again, I know they played great D. We need more production from a starter. I like Stauds and hate saying all this. I think Stauds would be just as productive playing 18 minutes per game.

This is where the above has led me and I have said it before. Although it is way too late, I really wish Tinkle would put CET in the starting line up and bring Stauds off the bench. CET's #'s werent earth shatttering either 18min,4 pts, 0 rebs, 0 assists, ? Turnovers. In my opion, he plays better defense, and makes the other guys better. CET can drive to the basket and make plays. Who is going to key in on CET? If Teams Key in of Stauds or he is "off" he becomes a passer during play development and thats it. I have heard Tinkle and Mick say Stauds is a good Inbounds passer though :)

Moreover, if you start CET he will start the point, and it will move AJ back to his natural position. I am pretty sure that would be a good thing.

The Griz and Tinkle are close, they just need a little mending!

Go Griz! Regroup and beat ISU!!!!

I wonder how this set would look on the court with heavy playing time:

1 - CET
2 - AJ
3 - Taylor
4 - Hasquet
5 - Qvale or Sharp

CET has 7 rebounds, 2 assists (of UM's 8) and 1 turnover last night. He was the second leading rebounder.

M. Taylor also needs more minutes. He's good in all facets of the game, and plays smart.

Sometimes Staudacher seems to get shut down by a tough defender, but he had some open looks last night and was just off.

Seems like Stauds right now goes through peaks and valleys. When he's on he can't miss, when he's off....

McGillis bring alot to the table, including energy and tough play. McGillis still hasn't hit his stride, but I still believe he will be a tremendous player.

I actually think it benifits the Griz more to have Johnson play the point than off guard. In doing so it gives Johnson the ball far more than than he would at the off guard position. The Griz are a heck of a lot better team when Johnson has the ball. He can create his own shot, plus dish. Moving him to the off guard simply takes the ball away from him more, and reduces his impact on the game. Give him the ball and let him create, that is what Johnson does best. As far as I can remember I do not remember Johnson having any trouble bring the ball up the court against presses. E-T would give you more speed on defence, granted but on offence keep Johnson bring the ball up court.

I like the Taylor insert.

Or I could really backpedal and go with a smaller lineup

1-CET
2-AJ
3-Stauds
4-Mcgillis
5-Hasquet- that would force him to stay down low and do dirty work! He is who he is, and has been a great player for us. It will be wierd not seeing him on the court next year. A new griz will be born next year to take his place (Ward/Hutchison?)

Who the hell knows. Tinkle might!

I agree. AJ looks far more comfortable shooting mid-range jumpers off the dribble than when he receives a pass. If CET was clearly a better PG than AJ I'd be all for the move. But while I agree that CET probably needs to play more minutes, I'm not convinced that permanently moving AJ to the two is the right thing.

Can you imagine all 5 players hovering at the 3-point line? That lineup could produce just that.

I wonder if CET will get the start for senior day today?

Matt Martin, who had not started as the season went on, got the start on senior night last year.

I have missed watching the last few games BUT I noitced Stauds STILL leads the big sky
in 3 point % (below)...Yea he does not lead the nation anymore..so bench him ??, I would think you would want him to take more shots not less. The key is to open up AJ, do you think they will be gaurding CET out in the perimitor ..no.. they will be sagging and gaurding AJ unless stauds is on permiter.
AJ numbers are nice now..leading in FT and leading in scoring. looks like stauds had bad numbers
lately But i think he as proven over the last few years to be pretty good shooter, good post passer
and plays good D.

If we do see CET more..I hope the hell he pushes it up the floor, like AJ does. I love AJs coast to coast..quickness.

Lets get 4 more wins and GO to the Dance !! :D
