I actually disagree with this, if that Henessey kid that's their mobile QB stays healthy they'll be really dangerous on offense, and their defense could be a little bit improved. EWU strikes me as a team poised to challenge for the Big Sky title.

This. Henessey is a very talented QB and could have a really good year. I hope that West wins the job for this reason. Didn't realize they lost 7 o-lineman, did they get any transfers on the o-line?

Eastern will be fine at Oline. As far as the QB position, its Henessey's to lose right now. There is another young QB (Gubrud) who is stepping up, but I'd be surprised if Henessey isn't the week 1 starter.

Eastern's D is the biggest issue. Didn't really lose anyone because they were so young last year, but with as bad as the D was not sure that's a good thing anyways.

Losing 7 O-lineman is going to hurt them. Kind of like the griz took about half the season to get their new guys settled in and performing well. EWU will have to do the same, only problem is their beginning of the schedule is brutal. They could easily have a 2-4 halfway through the season. Likely 3-3. Then say they settle in around mid season, their next two games are against MSU and Montana. Im seeing a 5-6 or 6-5 season easy with their schedule. Getting to 7 wins with their schedule will be pretty impressive next year.

Find me 7 near certain wins on that schedule

Taking a stab at it from EWU's schedule:

Wins: UCD, UNC, MSU, ISU
Toss-up: UNI, NAU, UM, CPSLO, PSU
Losses: WSU, NDSU

So, if you said they could win 50% of the toss-up games that would teeter them between being 6-5 or 7-4. One could argue they play Poly late and Poly usually crumbles as the season goes on. Also PSU graduated something like 22 seniors, they may come crashing back, if so those two games would move to the win column. UNI and UM in Cheney helps. NAU on the road will be tougher I'd guess. If PSU and Poly fall apart this season then EWU's looking more like a 7-4 or 8-3 team and probably playoff bound.

Maybe they struggle at Offensive line, but Easterns o line has been really good the past 8+ years, and thats because they do a great job at developing kids. Odds are Eastern won't struggle there.

If eastern starts 2-2, I don't think they'll finish worse than 8-3. Everyone can talk about how bad of a year they had last year, but besides the O line, Eastern returns basically everyone else on both sides of the ball. Shaq Hill comes back from his medical red shirt and it will open up eastern's offense a lot more as there wasn't a real deep threat last year. The D completely changed schemes last year and with that the new coordinator played a ton of freshman and soph's with no experience. The D will be improved and Hennessey will have an off season and spring with reps as QB1 this year...

Ummmmm you had Cooper Kupp. I don't know of a better deep threat. I like your positivity and maybe you'll be right, but I don't think you guys will be that much better on defense, regardless of the extra experience and kids being a year older. Even if you had a big improvement there, it would slide you up from complete bottom of Big Sky to maybe 9th or 10th. I don't think that's gonna get it done bud.

So I'm assuming you see your eagles beating Washington State, UNI, or NDSU? That means you think your team whos lost 7 O lineman, has had a horrible defense year in and year out is going to run through the Big Sky undefeated. Thats with games on the road at PSU, NAU, and MSU (not that I think the Cats will be that great) and Cal Poly? Ok bud.

Haha, I said IF eastern starts 2-2, and its definitely if. I see Eastern beating UNI, I don't see eastern beating Wazzu or NDSU so then it comes down to at NAU. If Eastern wins that game or one of the first two and is 2-2, they get 3 of the next 4 at home with their only road game against MSU who Eastern has absolutely owned. So yeah, IF, eastern can get to 2-2, I see them getting to 8-3.

Ya, but Hill is probably one of, if not the fastest player in the Big Sky. Its a huge difference for Eastern as he'll return kicks too. Having Hill along with Bourne won't allow the defense to cheat to Kupp as much...

Magically? You lose 7 O-linemen but your backups were better?

I don't know the ins and outs of the Eastern roster/depth chart, but you know it is possible that that is the case... I'm not saying it is, I have no clue. But just because they graduated guys doesn't mean they will be worse at this position. By your theory, the quality of college football would slowly be getting worse every single year... So such a condescending answer isn't necessary. Remember when Tripp, Coyle, Kanangota graduated, and most of us knew we would be fine at that position with the juniors we had stepping up?

Really? I remember a lot of gripping and hand wringing around here over having to replace three pro quality linebackers at once. Fuck, look at the machinations because a couple guys graduated from the defensive line.....I guarantee you if UM lost 7 offensive linemen to graduation people here would be shitting kittens.
