STATS: How about the level of talent that you have in the program right now. Can you give your assessment of it?

BH: Now that we're halfway through spring ball, I have a pretty good feel for it. We knew this to a degree coming in, but it's really made itself clear as spring ball has gone on that we're shorthanded at some positions. We had all kinds of wide receivers on scholarship and no O-linemen, no safeties, no corners. We're short-handed at some positions and we're trying to shuffle some of the deck, move some pieces around and try to get some serviceable guys in some spots. It's going to take some recruiting cycles to get it back to where it was when we left.

You're not concerned about O line or CB?

Those are the depth concerns currently mentioned along with safety. They have some open scholarships to address these needs if the talent isn't in-house and ready for the fall after juggling some positions. There could be some growing pains if some holes aren't filled through development and/or transfers at these positions.

I think Bobby is genuinely very worried about the oline and how bad it could be.....and rightfully so if doesn't hit it big in signing some before fall. Luckily he has scholarships to use

Also, and this is true for the entire Stitt staff, the first class that Stitt and Germer recruited are entering their junior redshirt year. And that class was the one where he got hired in December, honored all of Delaney's offers, and filled the class out as best he could similar to Hauck this year. The years that they had full recruting cycles, Germer and Stitt recruited a lot of olineman, they are the young guys right now.

The lack of Senior depth, and honestly most of the responsibility for the lack of Junior depth, is not on Germer or Stitt. Yes a drop down would be and would have been nice though.

Scheme had a great deal to do with it as well. GF24 mentioned early on that the running scheme Stitt employed called for a great deal of finesse blocking as opposed to firing off the ball in the traditional sense when it was a running play. With as much RPO as was employed, it would be difficult to much of anything else. But it wasn’t something any of these kids got to play extensively in HS, so there were a fair share of execution issues in the first couple of years.

There are approximately ten o-linemen on the current roster minus the incoming guys. Esai moves over when Stoner left the team, so I’d suggest he recruited some O-line guys.

The kitty kats have major issues regarding their passing game. Not only because of their QB, but also because they have 1 receiver on the team with over three catches returning from last year, and that's KK. Wouldn't surprise anyone if they, for the second year in a row, finished second to last in the league when it comes to the pass game, and that's only because Cal Poly rarely throws it.
