Time for a pole!! Who will be the starting QB for the first game, and do you think that someone else could take the reins during the season? And yes, I know it's not a real pole because there's no "bobcats suck" option but we'll just assume that it's a given.

Personally, I'm wavering between Logan Fife getting the starting nod and he and AhYat sharing reps during the first game. It honestly could go either way but I feel in the end that the older more experienced QB will probably earn the start. I could be proven completely wrong though.

So far, AhYat is getting more votes. I'd love to hear your reasons.

I still believe that the longer Logan is playing in our system, the better he is getting. He is a good athlete who can throw the ball out of the pocket or by stretching out the defense. He is a good scrambler and can run when the opportunity presents itself. We will see plenty of Both Fife and Ah Yat the first 3-4 games, but my vote was Fife to ultimately win QB1.

Bobcats suck

That said, I think we're going to probably be staring down a split reps situation unless someone REALLY separates in the next few weeks. Yes I know that lead to the NAU disaster last year but they got their shit figured out thanks to that as well.

Fife has seen more "live fire" and that'll help him. I think Ah Yat has more upside being a younger guy and having some fun breakthrough moments last season. I would venture the hurdle Ah Yat needs to clear is more the mental side of the role. Add in the fact we all know Bobby doesn't really want underclassmen @ QB if he can avoid it.

This is exactly why I am excited to see how it plays out. Fife has more valuable experience overall, but less in this specific system, and while he's starting to mesh better with the receivers that will undoubtedly need to continue as the season progresses. AhYat has more experience with the offense and the receivers but very little in-game experience. I would say that AhYat has the higher ceiling but also the lower floor simply because he could make costly freshman mistakes along the way.

And of course as you mentioned, Bobby doesn't love underclassmen at the QB position but one thing Bobby really hates is losing so I'm pretty confident that whoever shows that they are the most competent will win the position battle.

I think they will split reps, the body of evidence is too vast for that not to be the case, at least at the forefront of the season. However, I think too many folks are sleeping on Huot. I like the kid, just as much as the others. I hope he gets a shot, and the position doesn't just go to the "Popular" kids.

Are you basing this impression on anything other than the spring game? Because Ah Yat and Fife are not the front runners simply because they are "popular".

Over 50 people voted and only a small fraction of those care to explain why they voted the way they did?
Sorry, Mom. Was waiting to get into the office after an appointment. I selected Fife because I'm not as sold on Ah Yat as most, and the last snap Huot took in a game was probably against a HS team like four years ago. Usually, if that's the case, there is a reason for it. Therefore, I selected Fife.

My bad, I'm posting in between work haha.

Despite the ascendance last year, I think Bobby will lean on Fife's age and experience, and he'll likely be QB1A to Ah Yat's QB1b, as others have said, based on his tendency to default to older QBs.

Maybe this is the year he breaks that trend, though, and Keali'i certainly has the upside to do it.

It's a good problem to have actually 3 quality guys competing for the starting nod. Fife and Ah Yat can both "spin it" but with Fife's experience and playing time I think he can probably read defenses better. I watched a couple of spring practices and thought AhYat might try to fit things a bit tight and throw some ill advised picks, but this coaching staff has a pretty good handle on this. Huot is a great get and will hopefully get playing time. The future under center is good.

I voted Ah Yat simply because I'm relatively old and remember his fathers glory days as a Griz player. I guess I'm living in the past and hoping for the same results that his dad provided Griz nation. Regardless, I'm okay with any of them winning the starting QB job. Go Griz!! :)

Legacy players are just plain fun to see, even if they don't turn out to be the stars their dads were. AhYat definitely seems to have impressed the coaches despite his youth, and it's going to be very entertaining watching him grow.

I see Fife and AY2.0 splitting reps at first. I was pretty hot on AY initially, but he still seems just a little immature as a starter. Yeah, yeah, I know, he needs time, and I fully believe he'll get a lot more this year and barring anything unfortunate, should be the starter next year, unless someone decides to show up and take the belt away from him.

It's going to be fun to watch the Griz this year. I DO NOT see BH allowing another season to go as long as it did last year resulting in a loss to anyone.
