Stanfor Win Was Way Overated

First off Stanford is a joke. Any team that loses to UC Davis (2-7) and UC Irvine(4-4) is a joke. The win was good for the Griz, but unfortunately the Griz haven't played anyone who is really tough. The game on Thurs. in Santa Clara(4-4, lost to UC Irvine but beat Pacific) shouldn't be that tough, since the SCU program is on a downslide, the true test of the 1st part of the season will come against UW-M, on the 30th. I am excited about the Grizzlies' play so far, but let's not get too big headed. We still have to start conference play. Also to whomever wrote "Just 24 more spots and we are better than Gonzaga", Gonzaga in #1 on the Mid-Major poll because there is nowhere higher for them to go. They are ranked in the national polls which we have received only one vote, so let's win some more BSC championships before we begin to think we can roll with a team like the Zags.

A lot of good points there. One thing I like about Krysko, I don't think the team will get too big headed and lose sight of the objective. I think we have as good of a coach as we could ever have hoped for. He also has a great set of assistant coaches.

How come everyone got on the board after the Stanford win to tought how awesome we were but nobody has gotten on since to admit that a win against a 2-5 Stanford team really meant nothing more than a BSC win. This team is good & I'm excited about Griz basketball again under coach K but lets get real we are not Gonzaga & it is doubful that we ever will be Gonzaga. Let's appreciate what we have but be realistic as well.

- Stanford sucks this year, so yeah in hindsight it was an overrated win

- But look at it when the Griz played them, the crowd, the team, the coaching, the excitement. None of that was/is overrated. It was a strong win, and it's provided great momentum for the team. No one can argue that.

Bobkitties really ought to STFU when they diss our win over Stanford. They tell us how crappy Stanford is. Well guess what. That crappy Stanford team just kicked the crap out of Denver, a team that has already beaten the mighty cats this year. So what does that tell you about the cats? Can you say suck? I guess the cats must have thought Denver was a pushover since I see they scheduled them twice this year. Maybe they can get by them now that they have that halfcourt prayer down.

I haven't heard of too many Cat fans bashing the win over Stanford, backer. You seem reasonable enough to know that there are some people who just won't admit a good win when it happens. I admitted that it was a great win for the Griz and it's a whole lot more fun having a good Grizzly team come to play a good Bobcat team in Bozeman and also in Missoula. It's good for both programs to have a strong and healthy rivalry. This one goes for all sports. I'm sure there were some people who said that the Griz win over Stanford was overblown because Stanford is bad this year. In my opinion, any Big Sky team beating a Pac-10 team is a good win. I'd like to see something like 2002 where 4 Big Sky teams went on the road and beat Pac-10 teams (UM beat Stanford at Stanford; MSU and EWU won at Washington, and NAU won at UCLA) . It shows that there's some good ball in the conference.

backer, i could be wrong as i haven't taken the time to read all of the posts on this matter, but the few that i did read seemed to be griz fans telling other griz fans that the win was over-rated. i just remember some saying to calm down, dont get ahaead of yourselves, let's not get too cocky sort of thing. but, like we all know there are bad fans both ways so i'm not saying there weren't any cat fans hating...i just remember the griz fans.

No doubt some under achiever in Spokane once said Gonzaga basketball should just be satisfied with making a decent showing in the WCAC.

"A man's reach should exceed his grasp or what is a heaven for?" Anon.

The vast majory of Greenacres posts are negative so BFD. He is a tool :lame: :dope:

Majority!!!!???????

Show me a positive post ever.....this may be IT!!

He said he was excited about Griz hoops under Coach K.

Show me a more postive post than this one and the Hoops comments.

Even though we are 9-1 and doing very well and I like where we are at we haven't played all that tough of teams. Our schedule is pretty weak. I mean we played montana-western the other night and some of the other opponents that we've played are really bad. Then look at the other teams that have to play big-10 and other opponents. They play much tougher schedules. However dont get me wrong we are doing far better than ever and I love the direction we are heading. I think we will be even better next year with the talent we are bringing in.

Some good points, however you would be surprised how hard it is to get any of these top teams to come to Missoula. I know the Griz are trying to get a series started again with Gonzaga and will likely have to accept a 1-2 situation.

I still maintain that the Stew Morrills, Blaine Taylors, ( Mike Montgomerey when he was a Stanford) owe UM a home and home. If not for UM, they would not be where they are. Not only are their teams damn good, the coaches being former Griz coaches creates a lot of interest too. I think O'Day needs to work this angle if he isn't already. Krysko has a lot of contacts and is building a nice reputation so he might be able to schedule better teams soon.

People seem to forget that even though santa clara is not an impressive team this season, they are the same team that knocked off last years national champs. North Carolina. Might ring a bell

I was impressed by the win over Stanford...As well as the win over Santa Clara...

This Griz team is as good as any over the past 10 years, at least through the non-conference part of the schedule... :thumb:

I've been saying this for years. I find it amazing Stew Morrill can't/wouldn't bring his team(s) from Colorado State and Utah State-very close non-Conference games or at least play us at their house.

Blaine not wanting to come-back to Missoula is a little more understandable. It's pretty far away. Maybe in a tournament if we ever host one again.

Just getting those guys back on our floor would bring in 1000's.

Is Leroy Washington at Wyoming or Oregon State? Either one would be a good home-and-homer too.

Same theory with Joe Glenn and Wyoming football. Wyoming/Montana would be a fun game and relatively short road-trip. Not sure they'd ever come here, but why the heck not? We draw as many as they do.

Having Gonzaga on the schedule is crucial. I'd like to see a 3-game package of one home and home and one at the Spokane Arena like EWU got. I bet a lot of Griz fans would go to Spokane if they knew they could actually get tickets.

I think Leroy is on the Idaho Staff now after leaving Wyoming.

Why don't we wait until February to see what kind of season Stanford will have. Some PAC-10 teams will start outt slow. If I remember right UCLA lost a couple of bad games including a total blowout to Arizona in Steve Lavins first year. Those guys ended up in the Elite Eight that year. It's too soon tyo call a win overrated when the season isn't even halfway through. All it takes is a good team to play an average season and pull a lower seeding, turn it up in the Big Dance and shock the world. Look at Villanova in 85. I give Stanford a little more respect.

Steve Lavin was a flop at UCLA. He had alot of talent when he inheraited that team and he was not the right coach for that team. Talent can take you deep into the ncaa tournament.

Looks like UCLA messed that one up, look at what Lorenzo is doing at UW. Fresh off a #1 seed in the tourny and now 11-0 with a team that wasnt suppose to do much due to lost of players....

I like Lavin commentating my games

I really don't get this bashing of the Griz wins this year.
Its not like we've done this well in recenet years with similar schedules.

So what if stanford isn't powerhouse like they sometimes are.
they're still not a gimmie game.

what we should be looking at isn't weather or not we beat these supposedly weak teams, but at how our guys are playing and how the coaching is going.

personally, i really like the way the Griz are heading.
just an opinion.

btw, it still comes down to who wins the bcs tourney.
