Disagree. The Griz D is the best in the BSC. Not sure if you watched the NDSU game but they proved they can slow the best team in the FCS. NDSU only scored 1 TD so the D held them over and over and over again. This defense can win a championship, but the offense will keep us from making it deep into the playoffs. As the original post said better than I, it's because of a coaching issue, not a player issue. I don't buy the injury stuff and lack of experience because NDSU had the same exact issues but find a way to make it work. Thus, it reaffirms that this is a coaching issue, not a player issue.

You're never, ever going to convince me that you were, are, "growler." For one thing, he, "growler," evidently, has such a born-to-be-sour attitude that he portrays himself as one that has spent his entire life cooking up devious little insults of all others and deluded fantasies of his own import that you, "Ursa Major," has never ever come close to matching. Pity you if you ever do. He is but a worthless scourge that has yet to overcome the biggest trauma of his life, so far, and that was his own connival birth. But one that "can't look past the smoke stack coming out of his own chimney;" here to relate to all others such a malignant persona.

It was heady times, and the Griz just turned in another anemic offensive performance in a loss to Portland State, just like they had all season and the year before that. Meanwhile down in Flagstaff MSU demolished NAU, scoring over 60 points.
I expressed my outrage, why can't UM have offensive coaching and explosiveness like that? Green26 shook his head sadly at me. argh! Ignored me cause I said some of the dumbest things he had ever read. Sunny wanted to shake my hand for "getting it". In the end 2004 turned out pretty good for the Griz. 'Cats stayed home for Thanksgiving at 6-5. And I learned an important lesson that year.
I have felt that way at times in the past but not this year -- as much. It just occurred to me it would be interesting for anyone who feels this way to actually guess the next play and write it down then compare it with what really happens. I wonder if the sense that the next play is actually predictable is real or mostly imagined. It would have to be a real honest effort not some fake "Pickle boy" claim.Born2BaGriz said:...able to successfully predict the next play over 75% of the time against UND and it isn't that I'm that smart, it was that it was that obvious.

Agreed. The D is very good, but the Griz need to get an o-line coach that knows something about o-line play. There appear to be a number of o-line experts on egriz. Perhaps they could become the o-line coach, if they could break away from the internet. Our o-line coach certainly doesn't need the money anyway, as he made millions playing the NFL for a decade or so.

Yes we kept the score down vs. NDSU, but the D had little success in getting itself off the field, instead allowing very long drives, which lose games (447 yards, 24 1st downs, 39 min TOP). NDSU was forced to punt a total of twice. EWU (even without VA), MSU, and SacSt offenses are not so predictable as NDSU, maybe not as consistently executed, but I will be convinced of the quality of our D after these games, when we have to defend 50 pass attempts instead of 24 (NDSU). And then there's CPSLO and their option. I think this unit is the best we've seen in a while, but its biggest tests remain. The good news is none of those teams play D like NDSU, so we should have far better TOP to help out the D.PlayerRep said:True to some extent, but NDSU is a good offense. UM held them to 22 points and 1 TD. Only one team has held NDSU to less than 22 points this year (17). Playing in a top FCS conference with win over Iowa St, NDSU is 3d in conference in scoring (32), 2d in total offense (444), 2d in rushing offense, 6th in passing offense (5th in conference only), 3d in pass efficiency (1st in conference only), 1st in 3d down conversions, 1st in TOP, qb is 3d in total offense.kemajic said:On the other hand our defense has not yet had to deal the good offenses.NativeGriz said:I agree, the cat QB (combined with their new OC) has been very impressive. Indeed this poster is a sour old coot but I loved bantering with him anyway. He stated racist comments, called out almost every coach, poster, president, player and cheer squad person on the planet. Of course he often stated an obvious lie but he kept many of us "growling" at his obnoxious comments. Those that took him serious were doomed to begin with. He got after the jealous msu crowd and generally speaking was famous for making outlandish comments.
Steve snuck over to maroon blood and perhaps took up raising pit bulls for his grandchildren and became way to busy to stay on egriz.. So we lost him. He holds the egriz record of "bans" so as most sport fans wish for (I can say I played a record holder)
Now, back to the doom and gloom. I have a feeling we might see an improved offense. Why? Some of our players that make excellent weapons should be back. Ellis Hendo, Ralston and a few others will be healthy or getting healed up. Our line will continue to get better because they are young and smart and that is simply what young smart guys do. Jordy has had a chance to heal up from the horrific pounding he has taken, he is over due for a "come out" party.
Of course our defense had significant losses from injury and most of those guys will be back. They will be needed to get some 3 and outs to put our offense back in the game.
It has been a tough & rough road getting to this win-loss record but we are a pretty damn good team (7th in nation) and I would not count us out yet. I do not see us winning the world title but I can see us making a run at the play-offs and even win a game or two.
Round peg, square hole any way you state it, damn, don't give up quite yet!

Born2BaGriz said:First, I will follow the Griz and support them no matter what, I have held season tickets for 25 years and hope to have them for 25 more. I don't question Lurch's abilities as an Oline coach, and concede much of the lackluster play up front comes from youth and inexperience. I do however believe the Co OC roll is not working well and that changes need to be made. We have had some masterful OC's over the years and I loved the play selection. They have programs, hell probably an APP now that runs tendencies. I just believe they can be so much better then they are on both the player and coach perspective. Our offensive can help our defense a bunch if they just don't go three and out and can let them rest a bit. I just go nuts the Griz run on first for 3, run on second for a few and then are third and long or medium for a pass and an unsuccessful conversion. They have shown they can do it, just keep it rolling.
