Sprinkle to U of San Diego?

So, are you prejudiced against Native Americans too? What is your problem with Momberg? UM has had a great tradition of Native American women, as well as a few men. The best D-I tradition in the country. I am proud of my heritage. I am proud I'm in the MT American Indian Athletic Hall of Fame, along with some great NA athletes and former Griz. I was hoping Momberg would be the next in a long line of good NA players for the LG. I was hoping she'd get a better chance. I know and like her family. I root for NA athletes in general and the Montanans especially. I think it's cool that Lady Cats have a good NA player, and that the famous Stanford coach knew of Kola Bad Bear and talked to her after the NCAA game. I like the Cat men's player, Battle, and follow him. I like following Rayquan Evans of Billings, and Florida St. I like following the guys who played recently at Arlee. Many of them have had a much tougher life and fewer advantages than most of you, yet they are succeeding. I wonder if Holsinger has now ended the LG path for Native American women. I don't think Indian Country is going to look favorably on Holsinger. I assume NA women will gravitate to MSU now. For someone who had a kid sit on the bench of a non-D-I school, which is what you either posted on the board or told me, I'm surprised that you keep dissing Momberg about playing NAIA. I assume your son played NAIA too.

Another thing or two. Robin Selvig's long tradition of bringing Native Americans to the LG, recruiting, teaching and nurturing, and resulting in lifelong friendships, earned him an induction into the Montana American Indian Athletic Hall of Fame. I believe he's the only non-Native in the Hall of Fame. Also, the documentary, the House that Rob Built, has good coverage of the NA players on the LG. I fear that tradition may have moved from UM to MSU in the last year or so. The trashing of Momberg by HHH and Mouse, and others, probably hasn't helped either. I would now recommend, if asked, that a NA woman look at MSU.

You sure read (incorrectly I might add) a lot into a couple posts. MSU has a Native player that's done well the past couple years. UM had one that was "fired" and transferred to a middle of the road Frontier Conference NAIA team. Sounds like jury remains "out" on what her impact will be at UM Western. Another poster in this thread wasn't impressed with what he saw this year. Were you?

I'm sure Holsinger and his staff haven't given up on recruiting "NA's" who can play and contribute for the Lady Griz. Did MSU sign a couple more this year that UM missed out on because of "Indian Country's" unfavorable impressions of Holsinger?

I was fine with what Momberg did. I stay in touch with her family and have more background than the rest of you. Western will have 3 NA's next season. I don't know if Holsinger knows how to recruit or will recruit NA's, but I do know that many in Indian Country have taken note of what he's done so far, and what some posters like you have been saying Momberg. If Momberg and her family were asked about Holsinger, what do you think they would say? And, again, I know that I'd recommend NA women to go to MSU now. Of course, I suppose you think you're more influential in Indian Country than I am, mainly because you have a big mouth.

Momberg's name comes up when PR brings up Holsinger "firing" 6 players from last year's team. She is one of them so her name becomes pertinent when PR bashes the new coach. Not sure how that qualifies as "racism". I believe she's the ONE "fired" player that played basketball for a MT college this year.....another reason her name comes up. She also posted less than stellar stats on a team that won a national NAIA title a few years ago but wasn't a factor in the very good Frontier Conference this year. Another reason her name comes up. She's a player another poster watched play this year at Western. The poster indicates she's a defensive liability even at Western with limited athleticism. Another reason her name comes up.

But those of us that mention her name to stay on topic with PR's coach bashing are racists and "Indian Country" now won't send players to UM because of how Holsinger treated Momberg! :thumb:

All of which has absolutely nothing to do with Sprinkle not going to U of San Diego!

So, let me get this straight. When I provide my views on the new coach (and also sometimes when I have said nothing), some posters feel they need to respond, by mostly bashing and belittling a former player who has been gone from the program for a year and was only around for a year. This has happened frequently over the year, and continues even now. The player is Native American. I am Native American. Why do those posters focus on the Native American woman? Because both of us are NA is what I think. As a Native American, that offends me. To me, it is evidence of racism.

I'm happy to hear you justify why you believe it is necessary and okay to bring up and often belittle, the NA woman, when I provide my view of the new coach. Again, note that there are also some times when some posters just bring up and mock the NA woman, even when I'm not posting at all.

It says a lot to me that some posters do this, and also that some other posters try to say that it's okay. Would it be possible to bash me and leave the NA woman out of it. Again, I rarely have commented on her, since a year ago, except to defend her at times from these jerk posters, and occasionally when I looked up what several of the former players were doing.

What poster watched her this year and said she was a defensive liability? Again, Petrino specifically told me a year ago that her defense was fun, and she brought a number of other things to the table. I see no reason to believe some yahoo who claims otherwise, over her UM coach.

She averaged about 5 ppg for a team that only won 5 of their conference games. I would say she's at her appropriate level now. C'mon guys, this stuff happens all the time. Players transfer up, they transfer down, they transfer laterally. It's all part of the shuffle.

Every coach in America is counseling kids into the portal as we speak. Coaches don't want or need dead weight on their roster and players are happier going to a school where they have a true role, other than a towel waver. It's CBB 101 folks, get with the program!

I was the poster/yahoo, and Petrino lied to you to make you go away because you are a relentless fool. Being able to dribble, pass and shoot makes you a good high school player… D1 is another world

You are the liar. I have been good friends with Petrino for some time. I supported him for the head coach job, and he knew and appreciated that. I still communicate with him. I don't believe for a second that you saw Momberg play this year, or could determine she was a defensive liability. I see that Momberg shot 44%, 36% and 72%, which was better than most UM guards and even better than Stiles. Momberg averaged under 18 minutes. On a per minute basis, it looks like Momberg scored more than all but the Big 4 at UM, but may have been close to Bartsch or just behind. Yes, I know UM plays at a higher level. Momberg did better than I thought in these percentages. She got way behind when she went home for a couple weeks early in the season, due to a family death. Had shot 4-5 from 3 in her first game. I look forward to commenting on your future posts. By the way, do you rate Mike Warhank as a good defender and athletic player? You probably don't know who he is. He was a terrific 3 pt. shooter.

How's your prediction of Keller being a good player looking? 28% shooting this year; 17% from 3.

Looked at schedule and it was 5 games i watched her play this year. Shouldn’t even respond as this is getting so old, you dominate your all these threads with the same BS. Don’t know who you are and don’t care to. I have nothing against Momberg and think she will have nice career at Western, I know she is liked by her teammates and coaches. She is a great shooter but has to become a better defender to get more minutes(she is well aware of this), you are right in saying that she can score. You assume i don’t know her story, however you are wrong, i know about her family issues in October/November and she started off slow and ended better. You should also understand there was a February injury that opened some minutes for her.

She is at the right level and if you really care about her you would realize Holsinger did her a favor. She is getting her school paid for and a chance to have a meaningful role. Find someone else to go after i am done responding to you

:thumb: Nice post! Hoopfan (Richard Cranium) won't respond to you because you did a nice job of explaining your position based on observation of the player during this past season. He makes lots of assumptions then starts calling posters liars and worse based on those assumptions.

College coaching can be rewarding and extremely remunerative. But I can't think of any other profession where the evaluations are more harsh or more public and the time frames for success so short. For all the notable successes among college coaches, the firings and resignations are littered along the way like destroyed Russian tanks.

So I give any new coach all the latitude he needs to make personnel decisions, the hell with what any crotchety old crankbutt fan may think. Greenie, give it up. You're just hanging around like a bad smell, denigrating both you own illustrious history and that of your people.

I still don’t believe you. I also know what Petrino said to me, which is contrary to your view. I have a lot of connections to Western athletics too. Relatives in Western athletic (including hoops) hall of fame. Nephew is recent selection for Western Hall of Fame. Father-in-law was a college head coach in MT. You are a dick, and have been since day 1 under your Wyo name.

No coach in the history of college basketball has come in and terminated 6 schollie players in first week. Did it by Zoom. Never met some of them. What he did was out of line. You can attack me all you want, but what the new coach did was total BS. I am happy to put my own and my family’s, and my wife’s family’s, Montana and basketball credentials up against yours anytime.

You know something about basketball and follow it, but you are too far removed from Missoula and Griz hoops to know what’s going on. You are getting to be more of a blowhard each year. Half of what you post now is either wrong or stupid.
