Spring Preview - The Offense

Its crazy how much some people just hate Stitt.

I suppose there are a few who hate Stitt. I am certainly not one of them.

I just think there are a bunch of things that make many scratch their heads:

- perceived or real lack of team unity
- perceived or real lack of player leadership
- perceived lack of player development
- underperforming offense relative to expectations
- Immature defensive schemes
- poor special teams play

The coaches need to turn the corner on some/most of these things. I'm sure they know it and will work their asses off to get it done.

1. Did anyone proof read this??

2. In regards to finding a starting QB, what the hell does Stitt mean by this?

"..but you try to get a get a feel for how the other guys rally around a certain quarterback, how our offense runs and how efficiently it's run when this quarterback is in there. Do guys make plays when this certain quarterback is in there or are they not making plays?"

Listen to his press conference. He wants a vocal and passionate leader at QB that the team responds to. Pretty clear to understand.
I listened to it.

"Do guys make plays with this certain QB or are they not making plays?"

Seems like that isn't a QB issue.

A motivation issue on all players parts possibly but he brought up more of wanting a QB the whole team rallys around. A QB the WR's will elevate their game for and a QB the defense will want to make stops/force turnovers for just to get the ball back to his hands.

I can't help but wonder if his comments were meant as a bit of a swipe at the QB position the last few years or if he's just trying to broadcast to Phillips / Hill / Jensen that's what he's really looking for.

The QB play of the last couple years certainly warrants the comment.

No matter what stitt says it will be over analyzed and nit picked to try and make it seem as if he is an idiot.
It's ridiculous. He shows one trace of confidence and he's labeled as arrogant and full of himself. Over in another thread they are shitting on him because he said we'll have a lot of young guys playing this year, so they're spinning it as a presumed excuse going into a bad season.

It's hilarious to see everyone's insecurities....but also frustrating.

Stitt just needs a Tom Brady. Then Curran won't drop multiple key passes a game - he'll feel inspired to catch them for Tom.

Give me a f'ing GD break. Get real.

Sounding like a total dumbshit at press conferences might have something to do with it.

this last comment is kind of funny in that stitt must know his x and o, as he surly did not make his reputation as a public speaker......I really believe this next year, will be a very good year for stitt and the coaches...

As opposed to sounding like a total dumbshit on a message board?

I can't help myself.

It helps to have a head coach the team respects and rallys around. Do we have that in Stitt? I believe the respect will occur when they determine Stitt has the knowledge to coach at the FCS level or might be a con man who talked Haslam into hiring him.

I believe there are two different groups of players based on how they feel about Stitt, the kids he recruited and the ones he didn't.

Ryan Johnson gave Stitt and the rest of the staff his full endorsement at the end of the season. I think the buy in and enthusiasm is quite high all around. Just not on egriz.....which is okay.

Seems like that isn't a QB issue.

Seems like this has been hashed out but also Players often make plays for one QB when maybe not others. Maybe it's the touch on the pass, maybe it's work ethic, maybe it's intensity that the QB leads with. Players play harder for certain players just as much as certain coaches. It's also about what a QB demands of his teammates. Does the QB let a dropped pass go or does he let that WR know in the huddle...you gotta go get that. It's about leadership really

So you believe QB's with effective leadership and control of the offense can't make other players better? Huh... You should go tell Stitt so he knows.

Agree 100%. ALso based on a couple player parents and relatives who chimed in as well on this board and said how happy their kids are. On top of that, the kids themselves are very happy based on their twitter convos. Just saw Toure congratulate our latest basketball signee and said you will love it here.

Indeed it's about the whole picture which is rejected by that poster for such inexcusably bad logic it should be embarrassing to have submitted if not for a corresponding incapacity to feel shame.

I look forward to a more vocal leader at quarterback (nothing against Gustafson), because it will potentially be the most enabling feature of Stitt's, and frankly any offense. We know which fierce quarterbacks are winning championships at the highest competitive levels right now.

Very true...it's also awesome to see our redshirt freshmen and sophomore lineman put in the hard work to all come in come around 300 lbs for a change as underclassmen. We've got a boatload of young talent across the board. We'll see what we can do. But the fact is, Stitt brought alot of this talent in and he either succeeds or he doesn't. So be it. But it's best if he does, and, imo, he's put himself in a good position to succeed in his 3rd and 4th year. I'm optimistic about the major sports in general in Missoula next year. I think there's a good storm brewing that might quell some of the obsessive brooding on athletics, but we'll see. I'm really excited for next year.
