Spring Game

Since no one else has started a thread on tonight's scrimmage -- that I can find -- here's one. Being out of state, I won't be there. Those of us in the same boat could use some feedback. Anyone hear anything more about ticket sales/giveaways?

It's kinda funny that no regular season night games are planned -- as I understand from other threads -- but they're doing the spring game under the lights. I see the "official" GSA tailgate is schedule for 4:00. Anything else going on?

BTW: In terms of all the recent turmoil. Think about the Nebraska 'Huskers. They have their spring game today also ... and Omaha is under a severe thunderstorm alert, with high winds for sure, and tornadoes in the region. :-o

I was just over at the grocery store...and found myself daydreaming about the spring game; before I realized it, I was cruising the beer aisle. I like that, a preconditioned beer on game day response. I think I'll hoist a cold one or two later on. It's a sunny, brilliant day out here in the Puget Sound area -- I hope the same is true for Missoula. I wish I could be there.

Love it! :thumb:

OTG, it is sunny and bright here in Missoula at the moment. By scrimmage time, it's forecast to be partly cloudy and 54 degrees, with rain and snow showers due by about 9 p.m. Pretty typical spring day here, I guess.

I miss that Montana unpredictable weather -- too much overcast and blustery with rain around here. I had a beat up '66 Mustang convertible when I was in Missoula. One day in May I took off from Missoula and it was high 70s and totally clear...about the time I crested the top of the Butte hill, it was snowing like mad, but it was too much hassle to stop and put up the roof (and of course it had holes in it anyhow)and by the time I hit Whitehall, it was sunny and high 70s again.

It's raining and 51 in Phoenix right now. :? :? :? :? :?

Warmer in Missoula than Phoenix????? Whodathunkit. :thumb:

Right now the weather is awesome, hopefully it holds. As always I'll be there and I will tweet updates for those who can't make it.

Lincoln is now under a tornado watch. Just heard on the Weather Channel that they had cancelled the game -- for which they had sold 70,000 tickets. The AP news alert online said they would try to get the game in tomorrow.

Omaha, and Council Bluff are also under tornado warnings. My niece posted on FB about the storms. I am saying a lot of prayers, and know a lot of people in that area.

This day has been almost as long as waiting for a GRIZ game playing on the West Coast. With all the turmoil the last month, I am really looking forward to this scrimmage.

Why not try something novel for you......throw in an occasional dropped pass tweet for every 10 all-conference ones.

That could be a fun game then maybe for every all conference catch you can quit grabbing your nuts. They would probably enjoy the relief.

It was nicely done - just like a real game. Monte made an entrance, all the flags were flying. One of the Volleyball gals knocked the socks off the Star Spangled Banner.

I thought Jordan Johnson was beyond belief in terms of his throws. I can't remember seeing anything like that.

And Trent McKenney, the freshman redshirt QB from Hawaii has amazing quicks. Could we put him at running back - would he be like the guy from Sam Houston??

I am a fan who just watches the ball - you will have to wait for Bryn to tell us what really happened. Nice crowd - I would guess 5,000. Weather was a little cool and breezy - lights were great. Nice event. Tailgate was very well attended.

Please no, can we just let a QB be a QB and learn that position?

McKinney did some nice things. Looks like a natural heir to JJ. Height might be an issue (6-0). Nate Harris (CB) made a good play, knocking down a pass as it came to receiver. Expertly done. Was impressed w/ how offense could move the ball, esp. passing. There were no interceptions. Like others, I await BW's more detailed & insightful analysis.

Overall, it was a good showing of fan support. Much like a regular game day. Tailgate area as crowded as a regular game. Lots of maroon, of course. Everyone happy & excited. No trace of down in the dumps. Griz Nation moves on. Wonderful singing of National Anthem by a Griz volleyball player, no less. Ryan Fetherston raised #37 flag. 2011 Griz basketball team & Coach Tinkle honored.

Got a kick out of seeing HS recruits & families down on the field, later sitting in student section. Must be a thrill for those kids to be so close to the Griz & realize they will be there next year. At least I thought they were recruits, some wearing their HS colors & letter jackets. At the end, the field flooded with people, esp. kids, gathering around their Griz heroes, getting photos taken & autographs. And, oh, yes. The lights. Great atmosphere, just like a chilly Friday HS night game, reflecting off the helmets.

A couple cons: Sound much too loud. Wouldn't hurt to tone it down a bit. It's overwhelming, to me. The only way I could tell which team was in was keeping an eye on which QB was playing. Maybe Mr. Christian could announce a little more what's happening on the field.

Anyway, just a little color to add for those unable to be there. The Griz aren't back. They never left. :)

With as many football know it all's here, one would think there would be more than just Brint capable of giving a review. :thumb:

I was really impressed by the turn-out...easily over 10,000! It was a gorgeous this afternoon! I like what the offense did tonight. I was at practice last night & have heard that the defense has been dominent but that was not quite the case tonight. JJ looked really good & we slung the 'skin around more then I expected. I also met some really good people! Very impressed by the amount of people. I think we out drew all other BSC teams combined...
