Spring Game stream

Riley and Grady having a continuous conversation with one another rather than giving us anything even resembling a play-by-play. New players and numbers and no help from them with who's carrying the ball, etc. Can't tell down and yardage with no help from them. Frustrating to watch.

What a JOKE!

Grady is a teacher and coach(or at least, used to be), and does this gig on the side.
Riley IS the joke.
Oh, for the days of Mick and Gurns.

I forget. Remind me again how good a job Mick and Gurns did the last time they commentated the televised spring practice.

I was at the scrimmage so I can't speak to the quality of the broadcast. But it was just quick whistles and rotating lineups so it really wasn't real entertaining from a spectator point of view. Anyone bitching about Riley needs to tune in to any away Griz football or basketball (including Lady Griz) on ESPN Plus and listen to other schools play by play guys. Riley is by far the best in the conference.

Watch any team's spring game broadcast; they're all like this. It's damn near impossible for anyone calling the game. They don't prep like they do for a real game, and they almost certainly don't have a designated spotter. They haven't prepared a spotter board because, well, why would you? You'd need at least 100 players on it.

Try to call even one series of a spring game in your own living room if you don't believe me.

I thought Riley did good, but someone needs to shut down Grady on his "in-depth" analysis. Quick hits is fine, good in-depth at half-time, but during the game especially when there was a big play was getting out of hand. I didn't mind the interviews, tough to get those in during a running-clock scrimmage. Would've like to see more names mentioned on who did what though, but Riley couldn't ever get a word in cuz Grady was just talking....and talking....and talking..............

This wasn't just some fly-by-night dorm room production. Supposedly this was a UM/Learfield production. Professional. Or was it really a product of some group in Craig Hall?

IF, a big assumption after what was seen. but, IF the spring scrimmage is broadcast live in the future, then there has to be adequate preparation time for the broadcast. With a lot more players, then a lot more preparation time is needed. Riley, the Voice of the Griz seems to have been less than the title would imply. Riley and Grady apparently winged it, and the lack of preparation was highlighted.

I'm sure they didn't just broadcast this for free, so commercial time has to be sold. I wonder how many of the advertisers thought this was less than a professional job, like some of the posters have noted here on eGriz? Maybe this will be reflected in UM/Learfield's ability to sell future 30 or 60 second spots.

Again, it’s a spring practice. Consider it a blessing you didn’t have to drive to Hamilton and sit in the stands to watch it. You got to sit in the comfort of your own home and enjoy watching an organized practice in the spring on your TV. That’s more then us out of staters got to do. This isn’t that big a deal IMO.

They were talking to each other and hardly tried to report the action to the viewers. Riley was as gabby as Grady.

Like other people have said, listen to some other schools' commentary. Ours is great, way better than any others in the FCS. Better than a lot of FBS schools too.

For games, OK. Not for this Spring Scrimmage.

In a couple years, I'll retire from the grind of being a socialist youth indoctrinator and come down to work the spring game. And I'll talk loud and slow, down and distance on every play and match up the numbers to the name. Yer Welcome.

Should you refrain from socialist indoctrinator commentary, it could be a welcome improvement.

*hung

It's hanged. https://www.merriam-webster.com/words-at-play/hung-or-hanged

"The past tense of hang in almost all situations is hung. You hung a picture on the wall, or you hung out at the mall. Only use hanged when referring to someone being sentenced to death via hanging."
