Spring enrollment up

Not sure how I had missed this and if someone else posted this I apologize. Looks like spring enrollment is up about 400 more students which is a 4.5% increase. This combined with the 30% increase overall from the fall is good to see!

More nuance to this from the Kaimin:

"There is little-to-no change from fall 2021. Spring 2022 currently reports nearly 400 more students compared to the same time last year. But that number does not factor in students who haven’t paid their registration bills, resulting in a lower count, said Dave Kuntz, UM’s director of strategic communications.

Past counts included students who had not paid their bill by the 15th day of classes. Kuntz said counting these students slightly boosted enrollment numbers in the past, and led to UM reworking its count when students drop out.

“We went back to the best practices of it,” Kuntz said. “This year is like comparing apples to oranges, but we continue counting students using this model.”

It's going to take a little time to get the full picture as they changed the way they count students...

I've always taken the spring enrollment numbers with a grain of salt. Enrollment is always lower in the Spring because of the kids who graduate at Christmas like the seniors on the football team. The fall numbers are the ones to really focus on and those were extremely positive this year and should be even better next year.
 
This is great to see and I hope the numbers are "up and to the right" for a long time.
As the parent of two teens, in Seattle, I would think I'd see more visible marketing... It's very much top of mind for every single parent I know that UW is actually pretty competitive to get into and the cost of it and other West Coast schools that tend to get a lot of attention from kids is astronomical. I would think I'd be seeing a lot of UM marketing materials touting the great value for out of state tuition compared to a lot of other schools.... But I don't. I HOPE I'm just not in the same places that other parents are (I don't do FB or any FB-owned platforms, so maybe they do a lot of targetd FB ads). And I don't watch TV, so maybe they're buying TV ads (but I doubt that, not very much bang for the buck these days). But I would think there's quite a pool of western Washington kids who could pretty easily see the great college experience and add up the dollars and think it's a heckofa deal. Hope UM rakes 'em all in and keeps that growth curve going the right direction...
