UT-Arlington (wow wtf?)
UT-Arlington (wow wtf?)
The invitation is not conditioned on UTA re-starting a football program, and the move would be for all sports. If approved, UTA would join the WAC on July 1, 2012.
Two Texas universities are members of the WAC: UT-San Antonio and Texas State. Other members are Denver, Idaho, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, San Jose State, Seattle University and Utah State.

"I think this statement right here is the biggest issue right now. No FCS school with football will state anything resembling an intent to move to FBS until the football season is over. An FCS school will lose one year of eligibility due to standard final year before leaving the conference. There is no reason whatsoever to make the intent know a day before FCS playoff are done for the school.
I really think that the Montana twins have a plan and will make the announcement sometime in this year after football ends. I think the WAC presidents know as well and unanimously added UT-A to guarantee the Montana twins coming to a new 9 -12 team WAC in the timeline we need.
Think of the Montana timeline we know about. There was the well publicized letter from the AD promoting the move to FBS. Then the feasibility study which put the move at around a 7 mill price tag with facilities and additional scholarships and teams. That lead to a 'not fiscally responsible to do' decision. Since then They have added softball and Montana State has started a stadium expansion. Also the Wac lost Hawaii (biggest travel cost) and with UT-A have the WAC ready with 7 - 10 membership that will immediately give a perfect 9 -12 format with divisions for basketball and non revenue sports lowering the cost. A league they can instantly be competitive in keeping attendance high and now with several large markets that has the possibility of decent media coverage and money."

Oh, and MSU isn't ready either, even with the stadium expansion which has nothing to do with designs of becoming FCS
